You need to do you homework.

A few dollars out of every US Club Soccer card (from every OPL Players) goes to the Timbers.

Not sure if you consider this a direct or indirect tax that our youth players are contributing to the Timbers.

Why do you think the Timbers have no interest in bring OYSA and OPL together although the Timbers were subcontracted to do ODP. The Timbers make more money with OPL as part of US Club Soccer.

        ??

That is like saying that all the basketball players are Trail Blazers because we live in Oregon.

Our youth soccer should not be dependent on the Timbers (or MLS for that matter)

They are only interested in making money for themselves.

          OPC OPL and Gavin

Gavin the spearhead of the OPC and OPL is not about money. He is about oregon soccer and kids. Money means nothing to him !!!

          Little GW historty

Gavin starts his own club Eastside United. 1,000's of rec and classic players have enjoyed soccer under his leadership. He then basically paid and is currently paying Eastside Timber coaches a lot of money so they can work for the Portland Timbers for free, or little, or at least under current market value for various program in the Portland Timbers. You see it is easier to rip off the hard working parents of the Eastside Timbers then his boss. Then were was the time the state came in and made all of the coaches employees, a story for a different day but you have to be a DS to get in to that much trouble running a soccer club.

Then to advance soccer he started the OPC with all intentions of the OPL and US Club soccer. He, through the OPL promised us no more Bend and Medford, local Portland elite soccer. NO more ODP but better. What did we get? The OPL looks just like OYSA except now the money doesn't go to Chuck's vacation home it goes to Gavin's vacation home. You see as soon as Medford, Bend and anyone could give him a dollar they were in.

Just like OYSA, OPL card registration goes to fund ODP and the now DA program. Why does ODP cost so much, they still have to pay OYSA, looks like Chuck is still getting his vaction home. What about your vacation home?

Do worry about your girls soccer. The OPL and Timbers are working hard on advancing this. As so as they can find a away to extract more money from you they will.

How did the game of the world masses get to be the biggest scam in America I don't know but look at all the money you spend on youth soccer. You only need a ball and matching shirts to play.

Hope you like dog food in your old age, Good news is there is soccer revolt happing in the under of the sports world. Soon the OPL will go down and a new organization will take over.

What bills does the OPL have? 1 admin and a website. Nothing else. Don't pay for fields. Don't pay for refs. Don't contribute to the clubs in any way. All they do is collect a lot of money from the clubs, and divide it up between the 8 OPC members.

I have a daughter. My daughter did play for ESUFC and while the coaching staff was excellent the club was about quantity. Unless of course there was a high level male player with a sister that played rec that desired to play competetive. They did not value ODP, ID2 or anything on the girls side. It was unfortunate because they were developing so many young ladies that went on to play high level soccer ELSEWHERE because the quantity issue watered down the quality. It simply never had to be that way. It is a $$$ thing. And, a lack of interest. Their current DOC was able to tell us without any regret or thought that maybe it wasn't a good idea and I will quote "it isn't like girls go on to play professional". If the Timbers want to serve both genders then they will need some high level technical direction that actually cares about the female soccer player. I'm not saying that it isn't possible and with the Thorns maybe there will be some renewed interest! We can only hope.

                Only on the forum

Do you get to read about revisionist history.

Gavin Wilkinson had no part in 'starting' his own club.(Eastside United)

3 Rivers United Soccer Club (Happy Valley), West Villa (Great PDX Metro area) & Gresham Youth Soccer (Recreational-Gresham area) elected to merge all 3 programs, 2 classic clubs and a rec club in the early 2000's into one club. The former DOC's from West Villa and 3 Rivers both vacated their positions and eventually moved to the present day Westside Timbers. As a result of these happenings a new club emerged Eastside United, present day Eastside Timbers. Mr. Wilkinson was hired by the newly created Eastside United board of Directors to be the incoming 'Head Coach' of the club, whilst being a journeyman member of the USL Timbers incarnation.

Gavin's business plan and community profile for this near-poverty level club are well documented over the last 10 years.

It is true his association with the USL Timbers did facilitate minor league soccer players as partime staff coaches for Eastside United as well as a stable of parent coaches who did not command any real coaching stipend, worked on the real cheap.

GW's influence on today's Eastside Timbers is reflected in their namesake, 'Timbers' alliance club. A distinction that has no basis on the quality of the overall club or it's coaching staff merely a reflection of one man's ego and warped sense of entitlement.

At this time a special thanks is in order to the original Eastside United board of Directors and Mr. Merritt Paulson for allowing him to become the beacon of Oregon Socer.

Reading this, if you substituted ESUFC with VT, the statements would also be true for the most part. At VT it is still about quantity and $$, nothing else. They are still trying to create a true "identity" and they are doing that by trying to win not trying to develop players.

I couldn't agree with you more that this has to be fixed and I would guess it is the same at most clubs. With all the arguing that happens on this site, if the single item of developing players that play the game correctly was fixed, the soccer in the area would dramatically change. At all levels, teams shouldn't be allowed to play boot-ball, they should be forced to play with skill and develop their talents.

Finally, some clubs have to do some house-cleaning. In all aspects of real life, change can be very good for an organization and many of the clubs in the area just need to change things. Take a step back to take 5 steps forward in the future. Market a system with expectations and build within that system. If you want a model, look at the truly good clubs outside of Portland, their systems are documented, all teams play it and the player expectations are clear and unwavering. You miss practice, you don't play, period.

                      Funny

Hard not to be hired when you build the board, that is what Gavin does. Gavin is the board, and still is.

Here it is a nut shell.

                      We had OYSA,

Gavin and the OPC promised you the OPL

What did you get, Gavin and something that looks just OYSA, except all the money is going to Gavin.

Gavin is a toxic force in youth soccer, and based on last year the Timbers organization as whole. you want to deal with him, your money your loss.

                        sad

So sad when oregon soccer thinks it found a friend only to see itself going backwards with GW and Timbers.

                        Thanks for nothing.

                          just heard

I just heard that the OPC with all of the money they have been making not being part of OYSA and not lowering the fees are investing the money right back to the clubs for

                          Field developement
                          Coaching developement
player scholarships (it is all about the kids after all)

And if you are a Timbers club in the OPL special coach mentoring by a Timbers MLS staffer.

Very exciting time for Oregon soccer indeed.

                              Just In

GW totaly revamped the Timbers view and approach to player training and game managmenet after former head coach JS was fired for not doing it the GW MP way.

The results speak for themselves and now all programs in the Timbers organization are seeing the benefits from it, including the OPL clubs teams who were at best below average.

Just another positive improvement by GW and the Timbers.

                              Thanks GW
