If you can't protect your pocket books from these clowns, unfortunately your children fall victim to this massive scam.

Well intentioned parents for sure, but they fail to realize they are dealing with bad actors who are chasing easy $$$$ for useless travel league brands and double dip privates.

Most parents act in the best interests of their children, as far as they believe.

When it comes to receiving advice from alleged experts in various fields, many laypeople are vulnerable to being scammed. This is true whether or not it's deciding the best course of action for a talented child athlete, whether your car needs that new transmission, whether or not that timeshare in Vegas is a good investment (it's not!), or whether or not the converted garage in North Portland is really worth $400k or not. People aren't experts in most fields, even those of us who are in some, and caveat emptor.

In sports, the performing arts, beauty/fashion, and all sorts of other endeavors where a) talent is not evenly distributed, b) there are tremendous rewards for the very top participants, and next to nothing for the vast majority, and b) cultivating talent requires a large amount of training and such, generally at the hands of expert coaches and teachers, "your kid has talent and I can make him a star!" is the oldest scam on the books. As is "well, I can't make him a star, I can only give hiim a shot--but nobody else in town can, so you gotta pay me for the lottery ticket".

Jackson or Tate? Both have the same initials and "smooth criminal" applies in either case, though last I checked Tate was still alive; it was only his career that was pushing up daisies.

Here is the deal. Youth soccer is about money, its a business. Don't be fooled these for for profit groups described as non-profits with one mission. To make as much money as possible. Clubs with multiple DOC's make six figures. Do what is right for your kid. Realize if you are playing anything but Timbers Academy you should be expecting D3, maybe JC or likely just adult soccer. Spend you money wisely.

That's not entirely true; quite a few kids in last year's class got D1 gigs without ever playing for TA, but TA's handling of that age group (05s) was criminal in its incompetence.

TA has gotten better, fortunately.
