Parents cannot watch their kids soccer try-outs?

I'm not new to soccer but this request sounds new. Are other clubs telling parents to NOT watch their kids?

Depends on the club, fields, parents, etc. I've never seen that. But I do understand how parents are one of the most annoying parts of this business. And I say that as a soccer parent!

Why would you want to stick around and watch your kid for 1-2hrs during their tryouts? You’re not trying out for a team, they are. Go get a life, let your kid live theirs.

WSM lets parents watch, but keeps them at a distance and makes sure they don't interfere. Some do, some drop the kids off and go about their business.

Go home and have your kids alone. This is ridiculous

Wouldn’t you want to see what the level of the group is? Who they might be playing with? Of course, don’t interfere or yell out anything at your kids.. you’ll embarrass them and yourself ;)

Are there even that many parents that understand level? Level of what? Technical level, IQ? Physical capacity? What is most important. Nah, just go home or run some errands. If your kid is trying out somewhere you should have done your due diligence on the club and the coach, and now you’re leaving it to them to do their job because you’re happy with what you found out.

You can watch without assessing the other kids, coaches, or others. It's not a bad thing to watch your kid play. The time you have with them is short. Enjoy the expierences. Let them own their own tryout. Being present is not bad. There are positive ways to be involved with your kids.

Tryouts should also be seen as an opportunity for the kids to try-out the coach and the parents to try out the club. I go to see how things are organized, what they are focusing on while evaluating and how they treat the kids. My kids goes to play her best but to also gauge the level of commitment and skill of the other players and the attitude and style of the coach. We had a situation last year where the head coach didn't even show up to tryout and the tryouts were all done by assistants and were totally dis-organized. As it turned out the entire season could have been summed up in those 2 days of tryouts. Your mileage may very but tryouts can reveal a lot about a club and coach and for most this is a 1 year commitment. If a club is not letting parents watch from a distance I am running the opposite direction.

Honestly your wife is super fat and no one wants to look at her. That’s why they don’t let parents watch. Thanks for ruining it for everyone, tell her to hit the salad bar fatty.

Great insight into the mind of a d-team parent. Thanks for sharing loser!

Our club and the neighboring club allows parents to watch at a distance (usually outside of the turf/fence area). A good chunk stay, but they stay not really to watch their kids but to socialize with parents. We are all busy so its a good 90min (or so) where we can just sit down, chat and catch up. I think I saw 1-2 parents actually watching and paying attention but they were from outside of the club so I can see why if they wanted to see how tryouts were held and the other levels of kids out there.
