    Ecnl 2013-14

Did any clubs apply? I have heard rumors of THUSC, Timbers Alliance and FC Portland applying but does anyone know for sure if any of these clubs or alliances applied? Any others such as OSSA or VUSA applied? Would be nice to have one or two ECNL programs in the area but not sure if it will happen, fingers crossed.

OSSA will never get ECNL due to lack of U14

People keep saying that but it wouldn't be that tough for them to add age groups if necessary

I agree it would be easy to add, but they need to have the age before they apply. Also what have they won outside the State?

they would also need LO, SS, OC, WUSC & CUSC to also forgo U14 as ossa is a combination from multiple clubs. I doubt that will happen.

            The short answer...

            is NO.

The long answer is OSSA needs a U14 age group. Thusc applied last year and was shot down and nothing has really changed or improved, so it would be futile to apply again. FC Portland was a member of the precursor to ENCL and let it go for whatever reason and probably is not strong enough currently to get it. The alliance is just that. They are still separate clubs and none are remotely strong enough, with VT being the closest, but no ENCL team will want to play at those Harmony fields.... :-)

With the T.A. pulling many of the better male players over and if the 'Thorns' become a viable entity, it will only be a matter of time until there is a T.A. for the female of the species. If that attracts many of the quality players, it will make it tough for any of the local clubs to be competitive out of state, especially considering no clubs are currently competitive, consistently, in all age brackets. There are only a few individual teams that are.

So, in the short term no, and if they say they are it's just marketing since try outs are coming up. In the long term, the prospects are dim.

Same could be said for all the clubs in Oregon as of late. They have done well in Vegas, Surf and Disney though over the past few years if my memory serves me correctly.

I personally think that THUSC will get it this year, many reason but main ones are TA's connections at both US Club Soccer and Nike. They are and have been the best girl's club in Oregon for many years. I think these three things will push them over the top this year. If this does happen watch out as THUSC will be one of the strongest clubs on the west coast.

He had the same connections last year and they didn't get it.

Sit down Clarence. Take a shower. Easy does it. One of the strongest clubs on the west coast!! Best girls club in Oregon!!! Surely you jest.

Only club with a shot is Timbers Alliance. It will be run by the Timbers as a parent but is the only viable option for ECNL in this state. Everyone one else is dreaming.

Even though ECNL is for the female athlete, it seems like you would want a club that is strong in all aspects, including male. Just like Crossfire and WPFC. Is it really enough to have a couple of very strong female age groups? Why not give it to an Alliance club? That's where I would start. The future is brighter. Any club that gets ECNL status will still be one of the strongest clubs on the West coast whether it's THUSC or an Alliance club. But w an Alliance club you have more money, sponsorships, ties to the Timbers, etc. JMHO.

I'm just saying. I know THUSC people will bash me now. Ready, set, go.

True but last year I think he thought they would get in and did not use his pull and power as much as he could or should have. This year from what we are being told they feel very confident with their application as Nike is backing it as well as US Club Soccer. Surprised it didn't happen last year.

TA is well connected, I see this happening for THUSC this year for sure.
