Here is the truth. This was discussed with ALL affected teams before tryouts were over when it became evident that numbers were low. They said DPL may not be possible and if you needed to make other arrangements, go for it. They were not selling lies. They were trying to make a move to DPL that made sense for the levels of their teams. Parents there did NOT want to do just OYSA. They took a survey. So they tried with the option they had available. They did not anticipate that so many would leave or that there would be a cascade of departures when it became clear that two age groups would not have full teams for DPL.
For those left behind, it was pretty widely discussed what people were doing. If you were one of those bitter about being left without other options, that is on you. For the most part kids that left all landed on teams appropriate for their ability.
It might not have worked out at Bridge City, but most of the blame is not with Bridge City so much as it is with parents. Many panicked when a couple of the players talked about leaving and they thought they needed to leave too. I’m sorry but almost none of those kids at any age group was good enough to play for any of the alphabet league teams. Did any kids from Bridge City go to the RL teams or GA teams? Not likely because most did not belong at that level. People are delusional. Most kids there were better off just playing OYSA instead of a traveling team.
I get what the club was trying to do going to DPL. We were sold on the philosophy of the club and my daughter grew tremendously as a player and a person!
I feel bad for the coaches at Bridge city. So many awesome coaches who gave my daughter a huge opportunity to see her potential. Thanks BCSA.

Kids have left to surf ECNL & ECRL, Westside metros GA and thorns academy ECNL because they are top players and realize GA and ECNL are the best options for developing to play in college. It is really difficult to break into a roster of a GA or ECNL team from u14 on up when changing clubs due to in some cases zero to 2 roster spots being available. With girls making top teams at other clubs, that shows the quality of players because it is hard to break into those rosters. My daughters BCSA team had at least one girl go to each of the teams listed here.

I agree with much of the last couple of comments about quality of kids, coaching, and parents. Just a couple of thoughts about Oregon soccer. We do not have the population to support the aspirations of all these clubs. On the girls side in Portland area you have 2 ECNL, 3 RL, 2 GA. If you stretch it to Vancouver and Salem you can add 2 more GA teams. I believe CFC is having a hard time getting enough kids for their GA teams. This is too much. A DPL traveling team really doesn’t make sense no matter what club it is. I did not even count the E64 stuff and clubs that compete in other conferences along with OYSA, like Eastside.
About BCSA. There were kids with good talent developed by BCSA, which is now significantly drained. Last year there were maybe 4 to 6 per team that might have made a RL, GA or NL roster. Many parents overestimated their kid’s talent, as parents do, and thought their kids good enough to play RL or GA with another club. Many tried out and were not placed on those teams in most instances I would guess. I understand what you are saying about difficulty breaking into an established team, but there was a reason why BCSA lost nearly all games and tied just a few here and there. You can’t do well with 6-8 quality players and the rest subpar. I am not saying they were not good kids, just did not have skills to compete with the GA players they were up against.
In the end entire teams left. Like you said, a few went to the two new GA clubs, the RL clubs and perhaps some went to NL teams.
And where did the others go? Sadly quite a few to Surf 3rd teams, Westside second teams, United 2nd teams. Why go to a team like that with inferior coaching? I don’t get it. Let the top players go, but others would have been better off staying. Instead they left to feed the machine at those other clubs. Parents made moves out of fear of being left out.

Success builds. When you see good results, even if not always winning, many will double down with effort. Kids that are driven want to be with similarly minded players. When you are losing by 5 goals to 10 goals most of the time it has to affect them. Why try if you perceive it does not matter? I saw kids so frustrated. Others just accepted it.

BC seems to be failing due to lack of other sharing the vision. BC could not attract enough players to play in the GA. Now they are pivoting.

There are too many moving parts to try and blame her and then to compare her to THUSC where she came from…Ro knows how to pull in quality coaches that are good for kids and good for the game…what bridge city didn’t do is recruit and try to pull kids in like some clubs do…had they got success, early it would have helped. It takes many years to build success if recruiting doesn’t happen…

They sold GA and DPL just to bribe players in the door because they know they are not capable of developing players and making it a fun experience. It is called weak coaching and no philosophy.

If BC had any sense, they would merge with FC Portland (and so should Hillsboro). FC is the only club in the state that has remained consistent with its name, who it is, and its track record of developing people and players. That's a fact!
