Moving to Portland (Beaverton) U9 & U13 competitive

    Hi,

We're moving across the country to Portland with 2 kids:
1- U9 boy playing top div, in local top club
    2- U13 boy playing div3

Both extremely passionate and developing quickly.

I'm trying to untangle which clubs are most reputable in the beaverton area.
We have not yet decided on an area to live, but it will likely be slightly NE of Beaverton, perhaps west slope or Cedar Mill.

Proximity is good, but, I'd drive a little further for a better club depending on how different they are.

    Any insight is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    M

If you value character, I would skip Westside and NW Elite.

This area isn’t very strong in soccer development. This is probably why private training thrives here. If your players need a challenge, just play up a year …or 2 years if they have size and agility. Thats what we did. Pick 2-3 clubs and go watch them practice. You may find that a club that’s good for 1 kid isn’t good for your other kid. Try Rose City Futsal in Tigard or Portland. Sign up for a class. Talk to the parents there. Many talented soccer players incorporate futsal into their training.

I'm quickly realizing, this forum is toxic, and most agree.
            Why not take it down?

Agree. Or mandatory log in to comment. I think the same grouchy people get their kicks posting here, their negative lives spilling over onto this board.

Really? Tell that to the numerous kids playing in Timbers Academy who also played futsal, including Portland’s 13 year old girl playing in USL and became the league’s youngest goal scorer and finished a trial at Houston Dynamo this summer at the age of 14. Before you start harping on the Timbers Academy just know all those kids are playing at the highest level.

                  Where is your kid playing?

Nearly every local kid who has a cup of coffee, playing with the Timbers local youth club has zero interest or time for boutique futsal offered at the retail shops staffed with soccer flunkies, aka rose city.

Most that go through the Timbers youth club revolving door are Hispanic kids (central American descendants) who'se families LOL about playing futsal. The rest of the short stay kids tend to be really athletic American kids who Plateau at age fourteen or fifteen.

But it is true if you really can't hack it in the outdoor game you are slow, super skilled and just enjoy playing with a soccer ball ad nauseum. Please make a name for yourself In a fringe American activity.. By all means sign up and travel to events that are so pooly attended you can probably win or be in the medal hunt.

Most People are opting to do pickle ball instead because It's much cheaper less travel and it's a lifestyke sport these days.

Fads come and go in the states maybe Futsal will come back as a Viable sport in the future but until then paddle on..

SOMEONE doesn't like futsal. Must be one of the Route One coaches around here.

Stop posting please, this kind of PR and accurate reflection doesn't help our business plan or new member acquisitions. rcF

It has nothing to do with futsal you clown! Good players can play anywhere. Sand, wood floors, 3v3, 7v7. All these players would have made it if they did not play futsal.

Futsal is having a greater influence on the outdoor game; more and more players are moving the ball "futsal style" (boot on the top of the ball, rolling it with the bottom of the boots) rather than kicking or pushing it with the sides of the feet.

It does focus on certain skills, like playing in tight spaces, even if the mechanics are a bit different due to the heavier ball and the harder surface.

What matters, ultimately, is touches. Futsal, indoor soocer (futbol rapido), or outdoor are all ways good players get better. Other sports (basketball) are useful for general fitness and tactical awareness, but don't develop soccer technique. Playing Call of Duty is of no use.

But given that playing outdoors in the winter is sometimes a problem in our area, futsal is useful this time of year.
