No offense but by the sounds of it the trip was a disaster.

If you didn’t have a kid there, it sounds like your opinion has no value.

I did and I went down there. My kid’s team had a great experience. My kid’s determination and confidence went up from the total experience.

Some teams had issues. It was not a disaster except for maybe those few kids that did some bad things.

How about the coaches drinking tequila in the player meetings?
it wasn’t just the kids, Bub. There was some pretty atrocious behavior by coaches as well.

Good morning, the survey results are coming back fast and furious. Deadline is Wednesday for families to respond. I think we have about 40 so far out of 160.

90% of the feedback is good-to-great. We've had some amazing reviews, and that's always a good thing to hear.

However, we have some incredibly frustrated families, too. Lots of issues being brought up that we can do better with (things that we can control.... communication, cost, and logistics) and some that involve behavior in AZ that is far below the standard we have for the program.

We committed to seeing what worked, and what didn't this year by keeping it the same as it had been in years past. We'll keep the good stuff and change the bad.

We will publish raw results to the families in the next week or so, which will be good and help move the program forward.

It might be good to publish the results publicly rather than just to the families that attended this year. From the rumors going around, families may choose not to do ODP from what they are hearing (if they have not done ODP before) rather than getting real results. This may be a chance to let the families considering ODP know the actual results rather than going by what they are hearing around the campfire. It did seem as though the tryout attendance was lower this year from past years as many families were not satisfied from the prior year.

You can take the survey and throw it away. You need to totally reinvent ODP and create a true ID/Talent development program. Start by creating a real training program that is more than just 4 weeks in the winter. This should be a near year round endeavor. Create multiple teams per age group. Get rid of club coaches making decisions on players and select based on committee voting. Equal playing time for all players, this is a player development program and showcase not an”win at all cost” model. It’s not about winning the game, it’s about showcasing and identifying talent.

For reference, my kid has played for ODP for 4 years and enjoys it, but so many incredible players avoid it due to the stigma of favoritism and coaches that don’t focus on the player, rather the game.

clean it up, get rid of the soccer bums who don’t care. It’s still salvageable, but it’s on life support. The past years have chased so many away. Good luck.

You should take a survey of all the players in OYSA/ECNL/GA in Oregon and see what you get back. Ask if they would participate and why/why not. Ask how they rate their experiences in the program. Ask what could change and get them to play. Who cares what the people already doing it think as much as the kids who aren’t. That’s what will drive the success of the program. The numbers are dwindling badly, the reputation is awful. The experience is not that good. A couple of weekends in the winter isn’t enough. I agree with the above post on that. How do you ID any talent from that? Fix it or scrap it.

It's been scrapped for over a decade, there is nothing to fix.

                        Suggestions for improving ODP:
                        • There is no cost to players to be identified for or participate in the Program. For Training Camps, all lodging, meals and training gear are provided at no cost by US Soccer and Nike. For National Selection programming, airfare/travel is also provided at no cost.
                        • Players should be initially scouted within the environment they are most comfortable – their club training and competition environment. Clubs have the largest impact on player development, and club coaches and club competitions must be an integral part of the Program.
                        • Players are rated and evaluated for inclusion in the program based up on a combination of: (i) objective and independent scouting information; and (ii) information from the players’ regular trainers and coaches.
                        • The Program does not create significant additional demands on the calendar of the elite player.
