Vancouver parents, if you want your kids to play in the OPL league and OPL Oregon State Cup why don't you have your kids join an OPL Oregon team! That's an easy solution! I mean how many good premier teams does Vancouver Timbers have anyways? You say adding Vancouver to the OPL would make it soooo much stronger, but would it?

I find it interesting that earlier posts suggest that maybe the top clubs want VT to be a part of state cup and weaker clubs do not. I know that is a gross generalization but there seems to be some truth to this statement.

Vancouver parents don't see the point in going to OPL(girls) MOST (not all) of the time to join a diluted team that really should comprise the best from 1-3 clubs.
The problem with Vancouver getting access to the OPL state cup is that now they would take players from the PORTLAND side.
No Portland DOC's want that. Stronger players, stronger teams (girls) and they would have dominance over the league and cup. Much like a crossfire in WA.
This would force the idiot DOC's to quit being so stupid and start having to put better teams together instead of diluting the talent across 4 different clubs if not more.
In Vancouver as small as it is. They usually consolidate the talent faster and more frequently than the OR clubs. When they don't they fail to put out a team that beats anyone from OR. When they do, its no question.
So to answer your question. Why join a team that isn't as good as well as drive across the river to do it? Not an easy solution if you have half a brain.
GU-11 Timbers Reds Won Directors Cup and is a top team in OR
GU-11 Timbers Blues Beat the Reds 3x this year and once they merge with the Reds and the WSA team there really isn't the ability to compete with them in OR.
GU-12 Timbers Reds are a top team in OPL NWCL Finalists and own the only rival they have which is FCSC.
GU-12 FCSC Competes and wins against WA teams and are easily 1 & 2 in the OPL
GU-13 Timbers Reds completely dominates the OPL and noone can argue that. NWCL Winners and 1st in WA.
GU-13 Valencia Beat all the OR teams this summer and once they merge with Timbers, it just adds more insult to injury for the OR teams.
GU-13 FCSC Former Valencia team, was peace mealed together with B team and Rec players and somehow made 4th in the OPL premier division. Shown by how weak the OR side truly is.
GU-14 is a symptom of not consolidating for the Vancouver side along with consolidation for the OR side. Vancouver has FCSC which is stronger if not top 3 in OPL while TImbers and WSA who will merge will finally bring a team to compete but can't even hold a candle to the OR consolidation of ONyx
GU-15 through GU-17. Have owned the OPL and if you don't believe me, just look them up. Not as dominate from the GU-17 as the 15's and the 16's but still a major player.
If you don't think adding Vancouver girls teams to the OPL and the OPL state cup permanently, you are a bit out of touch, or should i say in your OPL bubble.

This whole thread is silly. It's the OPL State Cup. The membership can make whatever rules it wants even if it doesn't make sense to you. If Vancouver perceives it as a big slight, oh well. The development arguments are just dumb. You play in league but if you don't play in means players are being help back developmentally? That makes no sense. The greed arguments are equally dumb. More teams = more tournament fees = more money which doesn't equal greed. There have got to be more important things to complain about than this but it always a fun read so keep it up.

What other border towns play outside their State
I am very curious which States allow border towns/cities to cross state lines and play in their State Cup? St. Louis plays in Mo, not IL. Kansas City MO plays in MO and not KS. I could keep going...

The problem is that you are looking at the USYSA system and not US Youth Soccer. Your argument is for a true USYSA state cup. OPL does NOT offer that. If I were a Vancouver team and the OPL did not want me to participate in their cup (which by the way is NOT a state cup) then I don't think I would want to participate in their league either ..... if I have a good team. It is yet another example of erosion of talent.

WA teams are stronger throughout the board.
OR girls teams are weak.
OPL would be stronger and more competitive with Vancouver in.
Trust me. You need Vancouver out for your kid to continue to be the best loser.
Your own players are driving to Redmond because your program is a joke.
You need Wa teams badly.
