Quality (?) of RTC

I have seen 5 different RTC groups practicing. (Boys, different age groups.) Out of these, only one high quality training session and talented group. Anyone upset by the lack of quality coaching and or selection of players?

Can only speak of one group (girls). Did they select too many, yes. My DD made it for starters. But that gives the better girls someone to dribble around.

Your kid just happens to be a really good player. I am sure there are some good players who did not make the state team.

They take 18 players on the state team. 18 is a big number. The bad thing is that they take so many at the RTC level that really have no reason being there but to make money off them. Hence thanks for the support $$$.

If your player can not make that top 18 players then yes they are not at this point a good or quality player. Not that they cant be but it takes a lot of hard work as the good players only get better. You are just making a donation to the players that are. Sorry you believe that this makes me look like an ass but it is the truth the state team is very easy to make for good players.

Your humor is refreshing on this board. Sorry that some posters didn't catch it. At a younger age, my DD would have been right there with yours, watching girls go around her. However today, she is the one taking it around the other girls. Just remember, it's a marathon, not a sprint. You want your kid to be one of the best when they are at HS age, not when they are 12.

Would agree the quality at the girls has not been very good. I have watched the 99, 00 and 01 and not been impressed. Too slow for practices with this group - that is because they kept everyone and have teach some kids basic skills. Defintely not worth the money

I don't know a single person who thinks like that. More likely is that the parents are complaining that for $500 they get a ****ty quality uniform if any at all plus some very poor training. But hey they get a chance at making the amazing state team and if they do they can spend another 800 dollars for a week of summer camp. Yeah they are so proud their kid made it to RTC!!!

So I originally posted that they can't be that good because my daughter made it. It was slightly tongue in cheek, as she is actually at the upper end of the spectrum at her particular RTC. (of course that is my opinion, and I'm not one of the coaches deciding.) I haven't seen the other RTC groups, but I am familiar with the other teams and girls at this age, and know it might be a long shot for her to make the state team of 18, if that's how many they are taking. Will it be the best 18 girls in the state? No. But it will be a decent team and they are the ones that made the effort to try out. So it is what it is and it will most likely be the best that applied.

But whether she makes it or not, that's O.k., this is her chosen sport. If it wasn't O.D.P. it would be private lessons (or more of them), it will still be camps this summer, it's tourneys out of state, etc. For her and us, it's fun, it's touches on the ball, it's skills and life lessons learned. If it wasn't soccer, it would be something else. So is it 'worth' it. Maybe. Money might be better spent on private lessons with a couple other talented kids. But it's way better then any camp my dd has been to. Did they take too many kids at this age, probably, there are some that really have no business being there and that can be frustrating for your kid if they get paired up to do a drill and the other kid, either mentally or physically, can't keep up. However, the skill level is higher then practicing academy style with A/B teams together at your local club. The upside is they (the coaches) will know by the time they need to decide, who the better players are and in case you DK didn't have a very good tryout it gives them a chance to shine or improve. The kids that don't make it got some experience and hopefully learned something along the way, very much like going to a camp, and maybe will pride themselves on getting as far as they did and that's O.K. As bitter parents we shouldn't take that away from them. I'm new to this, so I can't speak to whether or not this is better or worse then previous years, except this format thins out the kids that happened to make a play while the coaches were watching and made the team, even though they sucked the rest of the tryout and no, I'm not a Timber lover. Mostly due to if your DK plays in a local tourney 1/4 of the teams have same damn name, you feel like you never know who you are playing. I know it's marketing, but it's silly.

If those of you posting on here think this is an 'investment' for college, to play professionally or your DK is going to play for the USNT. Think again. Look at the numbers playing soccer at the younger ages and then go to the thread of college, letter of intent signers and do some math. And these are not signings at Stanford, N.C., etc. either. You may think your DK is all that, but their not, and it's not worth your time / energy or stress on your kid to think that or for that matter, to belittle others that are just enjoying their kids. If it happens and they become the next 'it' soccer player, then AWESOME! Just don't post it on here, unless you want people to say derogatory things about them.

The uniform they gave out does suck. I'm cool with buying a uni, but if you are supposed ly representing the 'timbers' or the State of Oregon, OR O.D.P., get a kit that is decent looking, the right sizes and quality.
