TA Does it make sense for Portland

Timbers and Thorns Academy have never made any sense from a development standpoint. They've always been 100% about money for Merritt.

The TA is not a good thing. If you take a hard look they have retread local coaches who would be coaching at ADF or Washington if not for the TA. Quite a few boys that go there lose their interest in the game due to the coaching and allowance of letting kids pick on kids and coaching attitudes. Likewise, the Timbers only do the TA because they are forced, they do the minimum and hire the cheapest staff that is willing to take the job.

If they got serious and put some money for better coaches and more age groups it might serve the community well. As is- they are a nuisance.
