Can someone explain to me how the gotsoccer.com rankings work? I think I must be missing something. How can the champion of a tournament get less points then the finalist?

You would have to look at the detail of the points breakdown. Gotsoccer gives bonus points for things like beating a team that is ranked 500 or more spots ahead of you. I suppose it's possible that a team could have a couple huge upsets and get lots of bonus points but then lose in the final and still accumulate more points. I suspect that you will see an overhaul of their ranking systems as they give 0 points for ECNL events thereby ranking non ECNL teams much higher than ECNL teams. While it may be accurate it may also be missing a growing number of the highest level teams.Comment
