    1. Squatters are people and organizations that occupy some place illegally and without payment. Neither applies to OPL clubs, or for that matter, any clubs that I know about. Get it now?
    2. OPL clubs, and other clubs, worry about paying for rented fields. Many must pay for maintenance and help pay for improvements and new fields. This happens to so many clubs that it is not even debatable. A few clubs actually owns fields, but not many.
    3. By the way, are you another Aloha SC crazy?

I have nothing to do with Aloha, I am proud to be connected to CFC where we are lucky enough to own our fields. My comment came only from the observation that it seems commonplace that different Portland clubs will base a claim to priority on a field on historical usage. "we are here so it is ours" Sorry if using the vernacular phrase "squatter" offended you...it seemed appropriate.

it seemed like the comment "OPL are clubs with their own fields to consider" was meant to somehow distinguish OPL from non-OPL. If they do not own their fields how do they have their own fields?

        1. I was responding to the poster in regard to OPL clubs not doing anything to help whereas OYSA does. The fields to consider are the ones they rent, invest in by paying for maintenance and then help pay for new fields and surfaces.

        2. Few OPL clubs have actual title to the fields, but they do have some type of interest in them not only because they provide a service to the community but they actually fund maintenance and help pay costs of new fields. Unlike squatters, who pay token rent and never pay for maintenance and new fields, but try to abuse the taxpayers by demanding more field usage without paying for the right. Money investing in facilities by a club means something. I can think of FC PDX creating long ago the fields inside the cyclone fences at Hillsboro HS and the cost sharing of the Liberty fields some years ago. THUSC has help pay for the turf on field 2 and possibly the new turf field as well. So did Westside.

So, why should they pay anything but reasonable rent to CFC?

I am close enough to the organization to question the basis of your statement. I would love to know more.
Then ask your directors if your "so close"

So let me understand I should ask them about a loan that I heard about from an anonymous person on this board who claims to have knowledge but is unwilling to detail the knowledge. No I don't think so. If you think you know something you are the one who needs to prove it instead of making baseless claims.

That is all that would be expected. Where does the idea that anything more was requested come from?

Don't forget Bribing Politicians for fields!

In 2009 and 2010 Westside Timbers paid the Mayor of Beaverton nearly $50,000 each year for what they described as 25 hours of work per week as a "club manager". Check out their financial reports, its all online. In the same period Westside signed contracts with the city giving them field rights for pennies. It might have also helped that a Westside board member is neighbors and close friends with the person in charge of scheduling all THPRD fields.

Wow, and so we go through the looking glass...you imply there is some "deal" that was made, claiming particular knowledge. Yet when challenged you instruct the challenger to go ask their board member if your accusation is true.

It is not my job to prove or disprove your claim. If you can't support what you have claimed then perhaps you should keep it to yourself.

Like wise yourself. The poster makes a statement and you claim to have some close connection to the clubs board and refute it as if in disbelief that it could or would ever take place. His/Her reply asked you to contact your connection and verify for yourself. If you cannot do that, then maybe you should keep your comments to yourself.

Lets take a look at it. ODP was using the Willamette Univ turf fields for many years. Suddenly they stop and move to the CFC grass complex. Why ? I doubt CFC offered them for free, or that unless it was pennies on the dollar discount they would move their absolute elite level program to their complex.

I for one would agree that there was some sort of long term agreement that benefited both organizations.

Come on! We both know that renting turf fields is more expensive than renting grass fields. Just seems like a smart business decision by ODP to reduce their expenses. Why make up some story about some long term deal? Better yet, maybe ODP agreed to have "X" amount of CFC players on the ODP squads in exchange for usage of the fields! Give me a break! but big picture....who really cares????!!!!

In the past, when ODP used CFC's fields they would not pay for them. They allowed CFC to raise money for the club by charging for parking. This was prior to ODP using the Willamette field at Sparks. This provided money for CFC's scholarship fund. Beyond that conversations happened within a board meeting, so you will have to look it up in the minutes if you want to know more.
