It's a coaching issue because Jodel Wright hand-picked the Discovery players and the squad for this tournament. I agree with what you said about player development--do local coaches/DOCs value players who can combine and be unselfish in the final third? Or do they prioritize players who shoot low-percentage goals from 25 yards out because of the wow factor, only to find out later that those low-percentage shots don't hit the back of the net all that often against better competition.

It is not the training. It's the players selected. There are probably 8-10 prospect 09 players missing..some of them weren't even at Discovery (Cuervos for example). WSM players said no. UPDX 09s playing up said no. Etc etc.. That reflects really poor on TA. It is not a choice anymore for top prospects.

Oregon 09s can't score goals... look at the state cup final. Two "good" offenses vs two average defenses and the only goal scored was on a ridiculous keeper error.

The biggest issue is that the TA only runs teams at u15 and u17. If we ran them at u14 and then every year up like top MLS youth clubs then we wouldn’t be learning to play together two weeks before the tournament when all of the other teams have played together a year. People should quit hating. But I do realize that multiple top players in Portland didn’t make the TA. Only enough spots on the roster so keep your chin up and grind my boyz.

All those parents who’s kids didn’t get picked for Discovery on here just hoping for the TA teams to have a bad tournament so they can blame the coaches and say the players they were picked weren’t the best ones and how your kid is better and should’ve been picked. News flash your kid is still not at the level to make a Discovery program and or TA team and you being on here constantly crying about it will not I repeat will not make your kid better. The sad thing is we know who you are and how you come on here and talk about people but when you see them on the field you are a bunch of k*ss *SS and talk to them like you don’t come on here and bash them under a anonymous umbrella. The academy teams they are playing against have been playing together for 3+ years and are top rated academy teams at that how do you expect TA to do good when they come from competing in the Friendship Cup which is a joke of a tournament while the other academy teams just finished off their MLS next season. Sometimes I wonder how you as a parent think you know more than the coaches yet you yourselves have no idea what development is.

the irony is this post points out the true problem while they are trying to make it out to be about parents whose kids are not rostered. TA does not take it seriously like other mls teams and our selection process is littered with picks paid for by mommy and daddy….

Here’s an idea, call the Timbers and ask to talk with Rob Zahl; he’s the academy director. Tell him you’ve been reading the Talking Soccer threads, think he sucks at his job, and you can do it better. Your experience includes watching your DS play and watching futbol on TV. Maybe you even have a D license from that 2 hour class you took. After you get his job, walk into Ned and Merritt offices and tell them how you want them to change the entire Timbers strategy for acquiring first team players, they need to triple the investment in the Academy, add fields and coaches, all because you think they let some 09 practice players slip through their fingers.

Kids say no to local clubs all the time, the TA is simply another local metro club with two age groups. They are offering another average club team in the area. But, it is paid for and that's not enough to make kids come. Story over.

It’s not a f*cking average club you dumbo. This is a professional club. The only reason kids say no is because their sped coaches tell them not to cause they want to keep them on their team. Every day the kids and coaches put in hours upon hours of work just for fatasses like you to right a comment. All of u saying complete bs cause ur mad ur kid isn’t good enough to be there
