You say you want a resolution!

    Happy New Year!

    My resolutions this year:

    1. Volunteer a few hours at my club.

    2. Not complain about my child's playing time or position

    3. Not be 'my child's advocate.' let them sort out issues on their own

    4. Only speak to my child about soccer if they start the conversation.

    5. Before the game, tell my child how much I love them and watching them play.

    6. Be proud that my child gets to play, regardless of level

    7. Realize my kid may or may not be a professional, top level collegiate, etc. regardless of my actions. Realize that my contribution was genetic and is now financial and as a transportation and hotel specialist

    8. Support the coach in front of my child, realizing he actually may know more than me (and is giving up a lot of time to coach)

    9. Support the club in front of my child, realizing it is made up of many good people who work very hard.

    10. Enjoy my time watching my child do something they enjoy

    11. Not get emotionally worked up over youth soccer results.

    12. After the game, regardless of result, tell my child, "I love you and enjoyed watching you play. How about a meal at (child's favorite place)?" I will then enjoy that time with my child as well.

    13. To never buy a participation trophy (again!)

    14. To not have to write a list for my younger kids.

    15. Take a referee course to appreciate the rules and the people trying to enforce them.

    16. Stop pointing out the mistakes a referee may or may not have made.

    17. Take a coaching course so I can appreciate and understand the game better.

    18. Coach or manage a younger team to help support the club.

    19. Stop posting stupid, personal, inflammatory, sarcastic and ignorant comments on this forum. It does not make me feel good and does not benefit anybody.

    Peace. Enjoy the game.

          From the Beatles White album

You say you want a "resolution"
          Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
          Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
          all right, all right

You say you got a real solution
          Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
          Well, you know
          We're doing what we can
          But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
          all right, all right
          Ah

          ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...

You say you'll change the constitution
          Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
          Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
          all right, all right
all right, all right, all right
all right, all right, all right

I thought someone had helped us all by taking down this site. Alas, it was only for a couple of days...

              A year past

I did well with my resolutions this past year and my soccer life was much more enjoyable. It also allowed my oldest to start to take more responsibility and ownership of the game - which resultd in more enjoyment, motivation and improvement. Seems the less involved I am, the more involved she is.

Thank you to the DOC that wrote this.

                Here is my resolution:

Make sure the DOC is involved with the coach of my players team and knows my expectations as the person playing the bill.

Make sure my player is being developed and not just a 1k bench player.

Make sure my club knows I understand that between all of the parents we paid 18k and want our moneys worth.

To the refs, why we don't pay you directly, we do pay you indirectly. It is a job and we expect you to be great. We will not always agree with you, but we expect you to be great.

To the leagues, figure it out, and provide excellence, you price tag demands it.

To the coach that wrote the original resolution, next year write things that make you better, not lowering the expectations of others perception of you.

Pity your child to have to live with you and your inflated sense of selfishness.
You make it crystal clear that your only concern is the amount of money you're paying. If you don't want to pay the money, then don't. No one is forcing you.
You pay a registration fee for your child to participate in the club / league. You're not buying playing time or private training. This is competitive youth soccer. Get over yourself.

and as for the refs? Do they miss some calls? Absolutely. Do some of them meet the expectations of the players and parents? No. However, unless you are personally willing to go out and do the job - shut your ignorant mouth. After you've gone out and actually CALLED some games - then maybe, just MAYBE, you'll earn the right to piss and moan about them.

Ignore idiots like that guy. He thinks fields are free and is too ignorant to realize that hiring a babysitter costs twice per hour what parents pay for club fees. Let's also not forget that most other competitive sports cost MORE than soccer per hour.

If the cost is too high, go play rec.

                        .
My concern is paying for a job that isn't being done. Nothing wrong with that.

If the job isn't being done to your satisfaction - then change employees.
You don't bitch and piss and moan - you just change who you are working with. Trust me, nobody at ANY club gives a rats azz what you think. You're just another crazy, pain in the azz parent.

Do you know how STOOOOOPID this reply is to a legitimate complaint? Of course you don't because you are part of the PROBLEM that accepts the current state of Oregon youth officiating. You are willing to watch and accept games where the AR's consistently incorrectly call off sides? You are willing to write that check which DOES pay the Center who is so out of shape they make the calls from 40 yards away. You are the person who is too CHEAP to pay for better officiating and BETTER training for the ones who are in it for the money.

The solution is staring us right in the face yet the DOC's and the league executives are too lazy to SOLVE the problem. It should not come as a surprise to anyone that we get what we pay for. Currently there is a core group of dedicated officials who are doing the job for the love of the game NOT the money. However the demand for quality officiating is much greater than the supply of these dedicated officials. So how do you get more people to take the job seriously and act professionally?

Simply pay a decent wage to the time it takes and the professionalism we expect. Add in REGULAR training for officials with less than 4 years experience and periodic training for the experienced refs and DEMAND that they be in good enough shape to call the level of play they are assigned.

How much will this cost? Try less than $40 per player per YEAR. Yep for $40 we can increase the pay of the Centers AND the AR's and make it worth while for people to give up the heart of their weekends. It's a simple solution that allows the leagues to require more accountability and professionalism in return for less than $1 per week of play per player.

Lastly, saying that if you don't like something you should do it only means that there would be MORE crappy officials and does not improve ANYTHING.
