The answer is actually very simple. Timber academy is part of a league ran by the MLS clubs, and part of their agreement to have this league is it has to be fully subsidized. The Thorns are part of the ECNL which has no such agreement. Really is that simple.

Context is important. Being the most profitable NWSL club is like being the least profitable MLS club divided by 10.

The Thorns Academy should have to pay their players for the amount of abuse they inflict on these poor kids.

Do your homework. That place is a disaster. Not a good environment for young female athletes

The Thorns have no hold on ECNL program players, so it is not an Academy of the Thorns. What about Eastside Thorns? Boise Thorns, California Thorns? The people who play into this nonsense have no sense of reality. It's a shame that even the best people look the other way to give their little princess a leg up. Terrible parenting!
