Being in ECNL isn't going to make teams better, especially if all the top clubs get in. ECRL even more so. The showcases might help with recruiting, but what's the big difference between that and OPL or DA?

If one club is in ECNL and everyone else is not, there might be a recruiting advantage, though uPDX isn't exactly dominating winter league. But if everyone is in ECNL, there's no advantage.

I'm old enough to remember a time in Oregon, that is long forgotten when quality coaching & a team of high level players earned the advantage through their performance on the field.

ECNL is becoming nothing more than a money grab. The brand is eating itself.

If everyone is elite, no one is elite.

This model still exists in USYS - win State -> go to Regionals - win Regionals -> go to Nationals - win your league -> qualify for Regional/National leagues. You earn your way to bigger competitions through your performance on the field.

Now clubs just want to join "elite" leagues for branding and marketing in order to recruit, not develop, players.

Correct. And exactly why I hope my kids clubs don’t do it.

plus I don’t want them playing during the highschool season

There are a few good teams in ECNL but that’s the same clubs it’s always been. No, not in Oregon. EVER. They are too inconsistent and generally mediocre.

ECNL is a scam. Mediocre teams flying to play other crappy teams. GA is generally the same except they don’t have to fly for league games which makes ECNL and even worse scam.

Kids are generally going to the same schools and 90% of all kids that go d1 in this area which is a handful tend to not play or leave. But they did get scammed into paying 15k a year for it.

this doesn’t include the massive amounts of players that do ECNL that can’t make a Community college team or quit because of how bait and switch it is. GA will be the same here soon when you have bad teams flying to play other bad teams.

First off, drunk typing/texting should never be encouraged, let alone post on a message board. Second, its ok your daughter didn't make one of the ECNL/GA teams in Oregon, you can't live vicariously through them forever! Good luck this weekend v. THELO, strong club.

Not one parent on here complaining about ECNL has a kid that is good enough to play ECNL. These are the same parents that say everything their kid is not good enough to make is "overrated!" and "A money grab!"

No, and most clubs have announced their tryouts with no ecnl noted

My kid plays ECNL and if it were up to me, she wouldn’t. It’s a toxic mess. Most of her teammates are miserable. They haven’t won a single game. They yell at each other constantly.

So, you are wrong. There are plenty of ECNL parents on this forum. And can tell you that both clubs are severely lacking in many ways

Hate to break it to you, but the reason the players yell at each other constantly and are miserable isn’t because they are an ECNL lol

                              Lol exactly
there are deeper issues there. For one, mama or papa needs to stay off forums and writing BS

On the boys side WSM OPFC CFC EST will join the ECRL NW Division? Why? That's going to be bad competition.
