    OPL Spring League

Anyone know how spring league will be this year? Will they break teams by "in" state cup vs "out" of state cup like last year or will they keep the current divisions?

Looks like the same as last year. Spring league for State Cup teams starts 2/9 and ends 4/7. Spring league for non-State Cup teams starts 3/2 and ends 4/28.

Last spring (2012) was terrible for Fall premier div teams. Half of the games were against much weaker teams. No one in premier div could want that repeated.

I agree. It was not a great experience. We were in premeir and we played a total of two other premeir teams, each once, vs. the fall league where we played all of the teams twice.

More importantly - What is our alternative option and what kind of experience would that be?

are any of these teams any good? I would imagine the caliber of play would not be very good. Aren't all the top teams playing in OPL?

All of the VTimbers Red teams will be playing PML so they can qualify for WA State Cup.

About 4 divisions in the OPL. Real Yellow is a select team.

Outstanding. Geography continues to receive a failing grade.

State cups mean nothing anymore other than in-state bragging rights. Most college scouts are watching Acadamy league games for the boys and ECNL for the girls. What is the point of State Cup when you can qualify into other tournaments (Surf Cup, Dallas Cup, Disney) that attract more college scouts vs Regionals? The Pacific NW might be doing ok in MLS with Timbers, Sounders and Whitecaps but other than that we continue to stay behind the trend nationally in youth soccer.

OPL Spring League should take the top 2 finisher of first division and let them play up in the Premier league. Promotion and relegation should happen sooner!

This is true. I heard from an OYSA insider that Oregon and Washington have worked out a deal so that the Vantuckians can play in the spring PML and play in their state cup. This should save them some money having to not travel to Seattle every weekend.

Actually last year, the divisions for spring season had almost nothing to do with the fall divisions. The teams for each age group were divided into teams that intended play state cup and those who weren't. Then those 2 groups were divided into an equal(ish) number of teams in brackets within those groups. For example we had 2 state cup groups and 2 non state cup groups with 2 brackets in each group. A bracket may have had a fall division 2 team (if that team decided to be in the "state cup" group) along with premier teams. It was not ideal b/c competition was not well matched during the season. We played a team that (I think) had previously played rec in the "state cup" group. This wasn't ideal for either side. If this year the OPL decides to structure it more like the fall league, then sooner relegation and promotion makes sense.
