Timbers would have folded in 06 if Gavin hadn't kept the team together. There was no money and zero support from the ownership. Timbers would not have been in MLS in 2011 had they folded in 06. Remember Merritt wanted the Beavers and the Timbers were the ugly stepchild in the marriage. Gavin build quality Timbers and Thorns teams over the years and gave 21 years of his life to a club that in the end used him as a scrape goat. Gavin along with Ron Batman from Gresham Youth Soccer and Butch Pollard from West Villa combine to create Eastside United FC which is today Eastside Timbers. They are one of only two youth clubs in the state to own their own fields and will be breaking ground this year on a premier sports complex for the youth in east county. Jump on the GW out bandwagon, blame him for not be a polished PC correct business exec in woke ass Portland. Timbers Army, 107 and Rose City Riveters seems to have been takin over by all the knuckleheads who were protesting and burning stuff a couple years back. Blame everything on Gavin, go ahead, why not. Its all his fault. Big Read will always be loved by those who know.

BTW, BP owns & built the EST complex + has all the debt as well, truly a benefactor of unmatched vision and generosity. Much props to this gentleman.
GW had nothing to do with the merger of 3R & WV he was hired as a new DOC after the 2 boards merged the former clubs, just to clarify.
GW chose a poor boss in USL/MLS Timbers & NWSL THorns in the spoiled, ADHD stricken clown MP & in the end (MP) let the axe fall on this controlling operator henchman GW. So it goes
GW had the run of the chicken coup for awhile, now the chickens have come home to roost.
Much Love.

Of course, the major league teams have been squeezing their farm systems harder and harder, and a AAA ballclub is far less attractive of an investment than it was 20 years ago, so choosing MLS over the Pacific Coast League was absolutely the correct business decision.
But MP was and is an abrasive fellow, one who made lots of enemies, so when the **** hit the fan, it's not a surprise that he got made the fall guy, even though I suspect a lot of what went down was with the knowledge and approval of MP.

If Major League Baseball wanted a team in Portland, there would be a team in Portland. They don’t want one here. End of story.
The Timbers were always a more viable option. The top end revenue they make is much less than a Major Leage Baseball team would earn, but the Timbers are a good investment.
GW crushed it for the Timbers from a business perspective. The NFL, NBA and MLB are littered with people who have his cutthroat business savvy. He was never going to be p.c enough for the woke Portland crowd.
