There is a lot of truth to this. While the ECNL platform is the best place to showcase yourself and get a college scholarship (outside of MLSnxt) it costs a ton of money, similar to the four year colleges that kids are going to attend.

There is a pathway for those kids not rich enough to do ECNL or expensive private schools. Boys and girls still have the JuCo route and transfer. I would argue this is probably better in many cases. Playing time right away, tons of money for players at a already very inexpensive college.

What's the big deal about playing D1?

This past weekend, the mighty uPDX Boys ECNL teams posted an incredible 2W 1L 3D record against.... Snohomish United.

Can't you just FEEL the quality, the high level of skill, the sheer unbridled awesomeness? To travel to Everett, WA and show the local yokels what a true youth futbol club looks like!

They were missing a bunch of their players to ODP loser

Why would players at an ECNL club waste their time on an inferior USYS platform like ODP? US Club's offerings should be all the training and exposure a player needs! Or so we've been told for the last eight years or so (not just uPDX, but their fellow grifters at NWE...)

I mean. The goings-on in Arizona are like a rec tournament when compared to a weekend in Seattle's far north suburbs. It's right there in the name! ELITE Clubs National League. BM should be ashamed of himself.

My kid goes to a rival of UPDX, but why on earth does this guy care what other kids do with their soccer choices. Whatever a parent or player decides to do, great! Enjoy playing the game. It is wild that so many people are upset UPDX is playing ECNL. If the kids and parents are enjoying it, that is all that matters.

Was surprised to see the Oregon 2009 ODP team do so poorly.

Sometimes kids like playing with good players who are their friends who play at other clubs, something old farts posting on talking soccer might not understand. It’s a cool concept called “fun.”

The sad part is there are actually some people who post on this forum who have no kids who play competitive soccer. One such cat on here gets his kicks from recruiting players on the coed rec teams he coaches. Between talking smack on here and winning Oregon rec soccer world championships his life is complete.

Actually, good on the kids for doing ODP! I've no problem with that. Probably best for them, actually!

Just with the sheer hypocrisy of the ECNL grifters and tools, who have been selling us the bill of goods that all OYSA programming is crap and uPDX, by doing ECNL, is so much better. When push comes to shove, it looks like the uPDX kiddos (those who made it at least) would rather do the extra event in Arizona then take the bus up I-5.

ECNL is a racket and a recruiting scam. The coaching isn't really any better; Brandon McNeil isn't any better of a coach than say Alex at OPFC or Marc Evans at WSM. It's just the latest marketing ploy to try and build a superteam. And after "the players were too tired from HS ball" which we heard last fall, "they were at ODP, hurr durr" is the latest excuse. An All-star team form PDX should be going 6-0 against the likes of Snohomish, even if a few players are off in Arizona.

I'm a UPDX parent and have no problem with ECNL. We did ODP for 4 years and doing ECNL is way better than random coaching twice a year & half-***ed coaching.

Only 1 loss in the 6 games. It was the first weekend back after the holidays. 7 hour round trip. Honestly not bad considering these are kids lol

                          Calm down man.

Here’s the disconnect. You and all of your bedfellows at OPFUC or wherever you ferment assume these are teams of all stars just because they play ECNL. They wake up the same way other kids wake up, and put on their boots the same way as well. It just so happens that they play in a league that’s far superior to OYSA and they had to grow up FAST. Seems like you have an inferiority complex if you think they’re all-stars. They’re just a bunch of kids man. a bunch of kids quickly adjusting to high level competition against players and teams they’ve never faced. Last year they were playing deep into the state cup, and this year they were told they’re playing in the ECNL. Now, next season might be a different story. Bunch of families from other clubs just now are realizing what ECNL is and you can bet the house that there will be major defections to UPDX from clubs like OPFUC, EST, Saints, WSM and even Washington Timbers (many players at WA Timbers live more west and only played at WAT because that was the only ECNL option). And “the likes of Snohomish?” What the fukc do you, OYSA rec world champion, know about Snohomish? Played them before? Know where in WA it is? Judd at tasking out of you arse sounding dumb as a Jim Gotchall

You can’t compare OYSA to ECNL. Yes, it’s a lot of traveling and commitment. But ECNL is a superior and more competitive league. Virtually every ECNL team could win Oregon state cup, the bottom 1-2 being outliers

Someone must have struck a nerve. McNeil's Minions are on the case!
