Futsal Vs Indoor Soccer
It seems as though kids are being steered away from indoor soccer, and being pushed toward Futsal.
From a business standpoint I get it. Most Futsal centers have multiple fields since a Futsal field takes up less space than an indoor field. More fields should equate to more revenue per hour open.
I have also heard that Futsal creates better ball handling skills.
I would like to hear some opinions on this. Comments?

Also, the old adage of "in Brazil they play futsal" and look how good their players are. Personally I prefer indoor for a couple reasons. The larger size of the field and the play seldom stops.
The couple dozen futsal games I've watched over the years are filled with stops and starts due to the ball going out of play - as I would expect with youth playing that are learning to control the ball.
I don't think they can really be compared fairly as the different styles of play involved are so different. There are positives and negatives to both.

My daughter enjoys both, but I would not encourage indoor after about U12. At that age it becomes dangerous to play, all the local indoor complexes hire rubes to ref and will not call "checking". Getting flattened against the side walls causes injuries, it turns into hockey, it is not worth the risk.

Which is kind of the point. It is teaching ball control.

In futsal, you have quick decision making, short passing, ball control, and it teaches you to mark you player closely. It also teaches spacing. My dd has done quite a bit of futsal and her ball control is fantastic. She is very confident on the ball in outdoor soccer and I attribute that to futsal.
Indoor has it's own positives, however players learn to play with the wall and I think that makes the transistion back to outdoor difficult. Indoor more replicates outdoor and gives touches, so that is good. I just think that the wall creates bad habits. And even in indoor, you can go awhile with never touching the ball. In futsal, you are generally touching the ball every 30 seconds to a minute, at least.

Futsal is far better for developing ball control skills and learning how to play fast in tight spaces. There's nothing wrong with indoor and it's tons of fun but it doesn't generate the number of touches that futsal does. I'd completely disregard the injury comments. Soccer, whether indoor or outside, and futsal all involve contact and there will be injuries. That's the way it goes. There are no referees out there who are thinking, "boy, I'll let everything go so one of these kids gets injured."

Futsal is better than indoor to enhance ball-control because no walls.
Futsal would even be better if a regular indoor soccer ball was used. I see many
kids trapping a ball easy with futsal because you don't need much skill, but than
when playing with a regular ball after the futsal season the control is not there.

The ball is going to do the work for you in futsal. That's my main reason for preferring futsal

Thats too bad! I was going to sign my lazy excuse of a pampered child up for futsal. Especially if all the work was going to be done by the ball!
So does the ball or the child go to the games and practice? I just need to set up a nanny!

Futsal is being sold to all of you parents with a fancy name of a game that is played by some of the elite countries of soccer. It's roots stem from the circumstances of these governments with the lack of facilities and proper equipment, not as a training tool. These games are much more fragmented than indoor and the ball reacts completely different than a regular ball. These are the facts.
Due to it's less responsiveness, it is much easier to control which is the area that is most lacking in our DD's. Kind of like sending your son out to baseball, giving him a glove that is 60% larger, him being able to finally catch a ball (while you watch from your SUV, yelling at the coach) and then expect him to go to a game with a regular size mitt and do the same.
Work with a soccer ball, learn how to control that ball and stop confusing your kids, at least up until age 14 or so. They already have limited time with the ball, let's at least keep one aspect of the game consistent...
Cheers.

btw your child and their ball both need to go to training and matches; and also, your child needs to practice with that ball on their own, without you, too.
