I know.... Let's start a toddler program, I'm sure the academy can pick out talent at a younger age than U13? Good luck to all the kids ~ Parents keep spending that money, you never know, little Johnny might be the next MLS superstar.

So will the DA team for U13/14 just be the Timbers ODP State team? If not, why would they have 2 programs essentially creating the same team.

I believe you but I don't really understand how it will work. Since the Portland Timbers are governing both the U13/14 Academy team and the state ODP team how does a kid decide which to do. Or do they do both? In each case you are talking about the top kids from the Portland Timbers territory, right? So it really is the same kids, I would think. I don't know if you actually could do both, especially if your kid goes on to Holdover or National Camp for ODP.

One reason, for my son who has been on the state team the past two years, is we live outside the Portland area and don't want to travel to Portland for daily practices just yet which I assume would be required in DA.

ODP/Timbers Academy

They are the same pool of players, teams and coaches. For the younger ages (prior to U16) it is called "Pre-Academy" This starts at roughly the U12 age group. Note that OPD doesn't go by the club end of July cut-off (hence no "U12 ODP team"). They go by the calendar year from Jan 1, so they use the year, such as "99". The "Academy" teams are U16 and U18 (and maybe U23).
