The total number of teams from each conference to make the postseason (minimum 3):

    PIL: 5
    Metro: 5
Pacific: 6 (Their 3rd place team was ranked below their 4-6 teams, but still snuck in)
    Mt. Hood: 5
    Three Rivers: 4
    Central Valley: 3
    Southwest: 4

After one round of the playoffs:

    PIL: 3
    Metro: 4
    Pacific: 2
    Mt. Hood: 2
    Three Rivers: 1
    Central Valley:1
    Southwest: 3

Survey says... smack talk about the Southwest Conference is not justified by the results so far on the pitch. Three more buses will head down I-5 on Tuesday...

As a further aside--not sure the 5A/6A separation makes as much sense in soccer as it does in American football. Plenty of 5A teams (in particular Summit, La Salle, and McKay) would have no problems thrashing 6A teams. Summit won 6A last year before moving to 5A for travel reasons (not having to drive across the Cascades for league games), and probably would be a top 5 seed in this year's 6A tournament were they still competing at that level.

Do what the NCAA does: Division I is further broken up for pointy football (BCS, FCS, etc). but for all other sports, it's one big party.

Southwest conference did just fine against the competition they have faced. When they play a real team, then I will be willing to say if they are for real or not. For my money, S Eugene and Grant's Pass are less than Willamette, but just my opinion. Either way, good luck to all teams left!

I like this idea for all other sports. I also like that in football they’re doing a second tournament for football (the Columbia Cup, I believe) for the next 16 teams that didn’t make the state tournament. The kids get more games and a chance to play for a trophy, even if it’s not a state championship. I’d like them to adopt this for all sports.

My sons HS soccer team is one of the worst teams (ranking wise) in the state. He and a few of his buddies were talking about how fun it would be to have a secondary tournament to compete in like football has. To play with their senior friends again, etc. they also all acknowledged that they know they didn’t earn a state tournament berth but that it would still be fun to play in a postseason tournament.

Basically the Founders Cup but for high school teams. I don’t see any negatives to doing it. People will point to costs as a roadblock but we definitely got it done for football so there is definitely a will for it at some level.

I guess the other downside would be for those teams that don’t like eachother and don’t get along with their coach and teammates. My sons team, while not good record wise, played hard and competed all the way through. Their returning players would really benefit from the additional reps in practice.

There are no "real" HS teams. All the teams are bad. The soccer is terrible.

Home field advantage is a thing as is hometown officiating- just look at the last minute of clackamas/mcnary game on nfhs and tell me how a pk gets awarded to decide the outcome of the game….the further south you go the worse and more biased the officiating gets- has been a problem for years in oysa as well.

I watched as well and have to agree. Such a shame that an official to the outcome of the game into their own hands.

                            After two rounds:

                            PIL: 1 (Lincoln)
                            Metro: 3 (Je$uit, Westview, Aloha)
                            Pacific: 0
Mt Hood: 2 (Gresham, Central Catholic)
                            Three Rivers: 1 (Lakeridge)
                            Central Valley: 0
                            Southwest: 1 (South Eugene)

Not looking as good for the SWC. Only South Eugene survives--they might beat Gresham, but I doubt they get past Jesuit.

That’s assuming Jesuit gets past Central Catholic

I wouldn't complain if Je$uit lost the War of the Rosaries (they seem unable to beat La Salle, after all), but I wouldn't bet against them in that match without favorable odds.
