    Portland USL Team

What is people's opinions on Portland having a USL 1 or potentially a USL championship and or USL W team? Is there room for another pro soccer team in the state?

There is absolutely room. Desperately need an alternative to Timbers.

Now, if the USL had pro/rel, having a second professional side in town would be interesting, especially if it could happen that the Portland Riot (why not?) could make it to the top flight, and the Timbers, having angered every soccer fan in town (or at least the loudmouths in the 107) by not having Timber Joey slice off GW's head and award it to Blanco the next time he scores a goal (this sort of thing is a tradition in the bullring, after all :P ), get relegated and now have to defend their turf against the likes of the Phoenix Rising.

But without pro/rel, a minor league soccer team would be just that, a minor league soccer team*. It could serve a smaller local constituency, and be a cheaper excuse to go drink beer than Prov Park. And some might prefer it over the more "corporate" Timbers.

*In the grand scheme of things, of course, all of Major League Soccer is, the name notwithstanding, minor league. But since La Liga and the Prem aren't going to be putting teams in the Pacific Northwest any time soon, it's as good as we're going to get.

But watching Premier League games at home on ESPN, drinking your own beer that doesn't cost $8 a glass, and not having to p1ss in a trench isn't a bad way to spend a Saturday.

I wonder with the new MLS Next Pro replacing T2 if there is room for a non Timbers club. Who would have the funds and drive to make this happen?

Imagine thinking an MLS next team would be a "non-Timbers club." That whole project is just a way for MLS to make sure it can control even more soccer in this country.
