Crossfire looks formidable... as usual. Surprises? Not sure. WSA looks to be solid going 3-0, and only 1 goal against. Wa Premier looks beatable going 1-1-1. Surprised to see Vancouver Timbers Red beat Eastside Ajax and THUSC. Anyone know what happened in those? All in all Oregon/SW Wa certainly held their own. Nice to see River hang with Wa teams but they got beat soundly by Crossfire, 10-3. I think the Idaho team was outmatched getting beat soundly in all 3 games, but the Coquitlam team could still come back. I thought they looked very good, only losing to Crossfire 3-1.

Would love to see someone knock of crossfire.

It'll be interesting to see crossfire vs. wsa. They play next time.

The only slight surprise is that Vancouver beat Ajax.

          Other tidbits/comments:

          * The Idaho team was very weak, I think they would struggle in the OPL Premier division
          * THUSC thumped RSA Elite 5-0, Eastside barely got by RSA 2-1.
          * Wasn't sure how good Timbers Red would be, they appear legit beating THUSC and Ajax.
          * WSA beat Wa Premier 3-0, but THUSC lost to Wa Premier 5-0. I don't get that.
          * Top to bottom the Oregon Flight looks slightly stronger than the Wa flight
          * Eastside thumped a very solid FC Alliance team that won both of their other games.
          * I still hate crossfire. :)

I will venture to say that I think that Boys OPL U11 Premier division is actually stronger than RCL Div 1. I don't think that has happened on the Boys side in many years, maybe ever. Yes, you have Crossfire. And they are probably the top of the chain. But after that, I think you can start to make a case that the rest of OPL Premier is stronger. And I am telling you, OSA and Westside, who are not even NWCL, they would compete just fine in NWCL. I could be wrong but that's what I'm seeing so far, especially if you include Vancouver Timbers Red in the OPL side, which you have to because most of those kids are competing in OPL just distributed through 2 teams (black and orange).

I agree that westside should be in NWCL...but why OSA? I don't think they have proved themselves to be on top. Last year they we're good, but not this year.

I don't think either of them should be in the NWCL since they did not earn the spot at the qualifying tourney. I am just saying, I have seen both play and they are very good and would compete in NWCL just fine. OSA has gotten stronger throughout the summer. I saw them early and I saw them at Mt Hood and they are tough.

That's true. You have to earn it to be there. It should be a good fall competition for these boys though!

How did the Timbers Red team get in then?

I don't know for sure but I believe that they made it based on their Washington State cup finish as U10's. I think they made the final 4. Notice that they are on the Washington side of the bracket. WSA, who is also Washington, made it as an Oregon qualifier, being that they are OPL and earned a spot through the Oregon qualifying tournament. And WSA is on the Oregon side of the bracket. At least I think that is what is going on.

I watched both of these teams VTimbers and WSA...however I did not see the game against each other I did watch each of the teams play...

WSA has an outstanding player that is a pure game changer....however, you take him off of that team and WSA is average at best. This is common at the young ages.

VTimbers looked a bit smaller but athletic...they were actually trying to play a bit. The game I saw was against Eastsides team....Eastside is the most athletic in the entire group and gave VTimbers fits but somehow the VTimbers pulled off the upset. VTimbers move the ball around nicely.

That makes sense, I forgot about the Washington side of things. Thinking they were Oregon.

I saw both VTimbers and WSA at the Mt Hood Challenge. I thought WSA looked stronger. I only saw them once but they were passing the ball around beyond what most U11 teams are doing right now. And it wasn't just one player. They were knocking it around all over the field. I think I know the player you are referring to, and he is a game changer, but that WSA team would still be a high quality team without him. That said, the kid will probably help them pull out a some extra wins on pure individual talent. And just because he is a game changer at U11 does not mean he will be a game changer in a couple of years. VTimbers I couldn't get a great read on them. I saw them twice and they lost both games. The only opportunities they had were from long through balls (I'm not even sure they were intended to be a pass). I thought the VTimbers had maybe 3 high level players and then some drop off. I did not think they looked small, I actually thought WSA looked smaller. I have not seen Eastside play yet but I have heard they are the team to beat. I also heard they have some decent size? That said, they got beat by the Timbers. And WSA beat the Timbers. And Eastside beat WSA in MT Hood Challenge (I think it was in PK's)!

Hats off to all 3 teams though. WSA is 3-0, VT is 2-1, and Eastside is 2-1 to start NWCL. No matter what any of us want to debate, they all 3 appear to be legit. Congrats to them. But I also think that THUSC, Inter, River, and a few other teams that didn't make NWCL are legit. Tons of talent in the age group.
