Greg Ion asked teams to play an extra game because the Canadian team didn't show at the last minute. It was explained to those teams that the games would not count. Probably as an inducement to say yes and give Flight A enough games. Remember this was last minute / "day of" kind-a-thing. Thus this rule was not applied as it was not valid based on the agreement with the teams that were given the extra game.
THERE IS NO CONSPIRACY / NO DOCs or NWCL PURPOSELY UNDERMINING ANYONE.

Some of you act like this was collusion to defraud a team from their rightful spot. This is where I call BS. It was most likely an oversight / mistake to not include all teams in the communication.
As the other poster mentions EMFC was not a shoe in to move out of bracket play coming into their last game and had the opportunity to focus on goal differential.
It's unfortunate for sure but it appears to be an honest mistake ... not the premeditated BS that some are claiming.

The LO doc should have used his influence on the NWCL board to make the OPL game on Saturday be the tie breaker. It's not fair that LO had man at the table when this was being discussed but Eugene didn't. When NWCL informed us about the decision they said that after "much debate" we have decided to let LO go through, so it obviously wasn't an easy call. Why not make Saturday's game the tie breaker? It would have been the best resolution.

However, Eugene not being informed that LO's game would not count means they weren't given the information that could have made a difference. 16 girls and their families believed that they were going to the semis, and they were crushed when news came out that they might not make it. The LO doc should have used his influence on the NWCL board to make the OPL game on Saturday be the tie breaker. It's not fair that LO had man at the table when this was being discussed but Eugene didn't. When NWCL informed us about the decision they said that after "much debate" we have decided to let LO go through, so it obviously wasn't an easy call. Why not make Saturday's game the tie breaker? Not me. Don't like clubs with no morals. I find it strange that LO has a member on the soccer advisory board and days after finishing 3rd suddenly finish 2nd. I aslo find it strange that the soccer advisory board didn't let all the coaches know about the situation and that some teams in flight A only played 5 games. Why pick and choose who gets 6 games.

So they must have known in advance of the August weekend. Also, in the entire month and a half until the October weekend nobody had contacted the EMFC Doc/coach to let them know of the situation (not sure of the other teams). Finally, for the entire month and a half the game was recorded in the official standings and point calculations on the website. We had a game earlier that had a wrong score reported and displayed and it was corrected within "hours".

SOP for LO (pronounced "low"). This isn't the only time they snaked someone this season. Ethics? Sportsmanship? Not at that club. Shadiest in the OPL, abuse their positions and pretty much run the OPL. At least with the OYSA we had club independent idiots instead of the current me first and the gimmy gimmies.

So the tournament director is in a bind and asks teams to play an additional game so that teams in Flight A have enough games.
These teams that played the other games were disadvantaged as well. Additional game = player fatigue / risk of injury etc.
So now you want the TR to single out one of those teams (LO) and say .... sorry I was just kidding the game does count and you don't advance or better yet you guys can have a play-off game (i.e. OPL league game) and this fair?
This sucks for EMFC no doubt but it sound to me that the TR is keeping his word.
His word favors LO to the displeasure of EMFC.
Should EMFC been told in advance .... absolutely. They were not. A mistake nothing more.
We should all feel bad for the team/players/ etc. But eather way there were going to be some pissed off people (EMFC or LO). The TR just kept to his word.

Yes, I believe it was a communication issue. That doesn't dissolve NWCL of their responsibility.

I'm sure the NWCL is just patiently waiting for everyone to move on as you suggest. I mean it's only 12 year old kids right?

The "Official Standings" maintained on their site are either official or they are not.

What would their (or your) take be had a team been comfortably in front of the standings going into the last game, rested all their starters, only to find out after the game that a game from last August (that was never reported) was suddenly brought into the points calculation and, as such, they were passed up? It's exactly why you have "official rules, standings and regulations". They just f'd up big time and aren't willing to work to rectify the situation.

Your arguement works against WPFC as they played 3 of their 6 games against THUSC, FCSC and FC Portland. All bottom dwellers of Flight B.
No arguement that WPFC had an easy schedule.
That's not saying WPFC is not a good team they just had a relatively easy run at NWCL and this undoubtedly helped them into the semi's. They need to tighten their laces for the next game(s)!

And the Timbers had 3 of their games against FC Nova, Tynecastle, and Issaquah. All bottom-dwellers of Flight A.

I'd argue that the "bottom-dwellers" the Timbers played were softer than the "bottom-dwellers" that WPFC played. And the statistics back me up on that. In games of Flight B "bottom-dwellers" vs Flight A "bottom-dwellers" (i.e., THUSC, FCSC, and FC Portland vs. FC Nova, Tynecastle, or Issaquah), Flight B bottom-dwellers were 3-1-1 with a +6 goal differential.


They both had relatively easy runs at NWCL.
