Barcelona coming to Oregon?

Heard a rumor that the Barcelona USA club that dominated Surf Cup this year is expanding to Oregon soon.

If my choices are that my kid plays for a Timbers Alliance club or an FC Barcelona affiliated club, I know which one I am choosing.

Right now, with the turmoil the Timbers [aka OPL] are in (both professionally and youth), Oregon is ripe for the picking. I think that any well oiled, professional ran, youth academy could move in and take some (if not all) of the best players around and clean house.

where and who would they play?
It can't be all training .... top level players would get mighty bored with that.

2. You have no idea what it would take to get a professional youth academy to play in the PDA not to mention competing against a MLS club.

FC Barca's legendary youth academy, La Masia, signed their first American player last year. This my friends on TS is the path to playing professional soccer not all this histrionic drivel spouted on this website about ODP and Timbers DA.

I am curious to where you heard this rumor. It seems there would be other places with a larger population that a club such as this would expand to... Don't get me wrong it would be great but I have a hard time buying this one.

I dont think anyone is saying this would be a USDA club. At least, not right away. Don't think Barcelona USA is even a DA club. They just happen to kick the crap out of all the DA teams they play.

Agreed, and like all markets the talent will flow there instead of the Timbers DA. Should be interesting if the rumor is true.

I can tell you that I heard it from a VERY reliable source close to the club that will be taking the name. This particular club will be revamping everything about how they do things in order to best replicate the Barca development system.

If it's all as it seems I find this very interesting. Will have to see how it turns out though. Nothing good happens overnight, so I'm not expecting fireworks.

Where exactly would a new club train? Let's shoot for greater than 50 percent THPRD so they can fight for fields. But of course, the WS cabal would make them play on grass.....

This seems highly unlikely to me. There is not enough talent in Portland for this.
