Leagues can make their own rules, like it or not. You have lots of choices where to play soccer in the PNW and lots of leagues that allow girls to play on boys teams. WPL is not where kids go that want to go up against the best competition. If you are looking for the best competition find a club that can access it. SCA has very limited options. Sometimes you have to make tough decisions and pick beteeen playing with friends or playing against better competition. SCA is looking out for their pocket book not their players.

^ Agree, WPL is not going to provide the desired challenge. Mixed feelings on ECNL and GAL but definitely a higher level of play. Tryout for one of these teams in the area, see how it goes, and take it from there. Ridiculous that this made it so far into the press and media.

I also saw somewhere that she normally plays with the HS girls team normally except they are currently in season. So this is only a “problem” for 2-3 months? She can still train as much as she wants with the boys and missed out on 8-10 Fall games? Why would you change a rule of this magnitude in that case? Doesn’t make any sense.

I don't understand why WPL allows girls to play on boys' teams in the Copa league and not the Super league? Makes no sense why the rules are different.

The rules are not different. They may be administered differently but the rule itself is very clear:

F. WPL leagues from 9U through 19U are defined as either boys’ or girls’ leagues. In the WPL, players must play on teams of their same sex.

Why is a kid from Portland petitioning to get into a low level league in Washington when their local league (oysa) allows girls to play on boys teams and has better competition. This is bizarre to me. Who wants to drive to Spokane to beat a recreational level team 10-0?

Because SCA isn’t allowed in OYSA because they are for profit so their coaches have convinced the parents that their daughter is so special that she “needs” to play with boys since their club doesn’t have an 08 girls team to play up on and apparently their 09 team isn’t very good.

You obviously don't know this player or the specific reasons why the player's parents and coaches have decided this is the best path forward for THIS player. It doesn't affect you in any way, so why do you care?

PS. I have no dog in this fight. My kid plays on age level and same gender without issue and is plenty challenged. But I have seen seriously talented girls (including this one from SCA - not my club) that absolutely benefit from the faster pace of play with boys.

This is funny and true. It definitely helps the young lady. But probably doesn’t sit well with little soccer dads who’s pride and joy is getting worked over by a talented young lady every weekend on the pitch.

Sounds like she just needs to find a better overall team? My daughter's team entered a premier boys division bracket in a tournament this summer and they smoked the lads. If she wants competition it's out there and they wouldn't have to drive to Seattle for league games just to feel "elite".

She needs to start looking at other girls teams..boys are starting to hit puberty and the game is getting physical. Great player but her run playing with boys is coming to an end unfortunately.

There’s a reason why FC Dallas BU15 beat the USWNT…of course I’m sure that SCA has these poor parents convinced that their daughter is a shoe in for the NT in the future. They’ve already referenced a generational talent like OM so, the KoolAid must be strong.
