Can we agree that to move competitive soccer in Oregon forward the OYSA and OPL Boards have to come to an agreement on what is in the best interest of the kids and not their own paychecks and clubs? If we do the question then is how do we get them to do that and if they refuse then how do we as the consumers of their “product” change the leadership of both organizations?
We only have to look to the recent actions of the OPL DOC’s regarding the Sate Cup’s to understand they are not solely motivated to improve Oregon soccer. Since inception the OPL DOC’s have demonstrated they are more focused on their paychecks and perceived power than to form a responsive organization or accept a structure that serves a larger purpose.
Similarly Chuck & crew have not come to the realization that their mere presence is part of the problem and regardless of how accommodating their proposed policy changes are nothing is going to happen as long as they are sitting behind the desks.
So how do we get Chuck & crew to step down? On the flip side, how are we going to gain control over OPL when as DOC’s and coaches they hold the fate of our kid’s soccer future in their hands? This is a serious question because I am not aware of any OPL Club Board that has the courage to take on the OPC and demand meaningful change.
If things stay on the current course we will continue to split the Oregon soccer community in half and our results will be just that, half as good as they could be!
