Are all the Brit coaches good for youth soccer?

In Oregon (maybe in all of the US), we have a lot of Brits coaching our kids. Are we doing it for the right reasons? Why aren't there more Mexican coaches? After all, we have a larger population of Hispanics here.

One argument I have heard --- and these are generalizations!--- is that we Yanks know we need help and, at the Premier level, we are willing to pay for the expertise. The Brits who do this for a living are not bashful about tooting their own horns and they convince clubs and parents that they are good. That accent helps.

Hispanic coaches, on the flipside, are relatively quieter and don't know how to position themselves politically at the clubs, so they don't become premier coaches. There may also be some subtle prejudices at work here too, but I hope that is not the case.

As a result, our kids are being taught the British style of soccer rather than encouraged to do more creative plays. Etc., etc., or so the story I've heard goes...

What are the thoughts on this?

I would guess cost is a huge factor. You only get to stay in the system here by paying more money. Hispanic coaches are doing the Hispanic league and doing it cheap.

I have several British friends (many of them are coaches), but I will be the first to say that the British influence on our youth soccer programs is holding us back. An accent doesn't make you a better coach....sorry.

Many will cite that the Premier League is the best in the World, therefore we should do as the English do, however it is the FOREIGN talent in the EPL that makes it great. Only a handful of English talent are considered the top talent in the league. The rest are just filler.

This influence encourages poor player selection (bigger, faster, stronger, with less technique is desirable). Where do the Messi's, Iniesta's, and Xavi's fit in to this system. We have some Messi/Iniesta-esque kids that are getting overlooked for the Timbers Academy right now.

Some of the local kids suiting up for Timber's reserve games aren't even the best on their club team (though they might be more athletic than the others).

Player selection influences style of play (typically more direct, like the English).

Not all english coaches are bad, and not all mexican coaches are the answer. But we need more coaches, regardless of nationality or heritage, that understand TRUE player development (Spain, Argentia, Brazil, Holland, etc..)

That you have too much time on your hands to worry about things that don't matter.

English coaches get a bye on the infatuation we have with their accents. Their soccer sucks and they know it so they start riots in the stands and in the streets because their own players are so bad. Or they get a visa and then coach at Oregon Premier clubs.

They make terrible role models for proper oral hygiene.

Since we are making this a bigoted debate, then I vote to have more hispanic leagues. The more we welcome them, then the cheaper it is to get work done around your house.

It's for sure that the british (like most fat *ss americans) can't do manual labor.
