I posted the post about maybe this actually being powerful parents and was typing when this was posted. This makes sense too. Follow the money and the power and you’ll find your source. Often that source ends at the parents but if the Timbers are involved, they have more money and power than all the parents put together. No matter how much I support the Timbers/Thorns, it is simply very bad news to have Oregon soccer run by one king in charge of the entire state.

The world of youth pay to play soccer is full of helicopter parents who will do anything to get their way for their precious child. That’s human nature. All the drama and scandals I’ve seen over the years have always started with a power hungry, whiny or unhappy parent, who will do anything to help their child. Including getting coaches fired for trumped up reasons, paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy their way onto a college team or less but lots of money to buy privates or other means of buying their way onto club A teams and starting lineups, getting on boards so they can favor their child, etc. These wealthy parents have all the power over the soccer coaches and have ruined many a team, coach or even entire clubs. My guess is that’s the case here. Filing a lawsuit to not allow someone they don’t like to leave and start their own club sounds petty and very much like parents scorned or on a power trip. The bad coaches I’ve encountered over the years (and there were many to varying degrees)were always because they were being influenced by parents acting as puppeteers. The parents have all the power because they pay the coach’s salary. The unequal power structure is set by the fact that there would be no club without paying parents. MY two cents: dig deeper into parental complaints and unhappiness before any of this went down. My guess is there is parental kindling behind this story of fire.

No, I’m not a coach. I’m a parent whose children have been hurt and treated unfairly over and over due to other parents trying to run the show and having influence over coaches and clubs. At first it seems like it’s obviously the coach, but digging deeper always found a parent at the root of what the coach was doing. It’s those kinds of parents who are ruining club soccer for everyone and might well be behind this lawsuit. I don’t know what happened in Bend but jumping to conclusions has unjustly ruined many peoples lives.
You are absolutely right....Sadly, this is exactly what happens at so many levels, on so many teams, at every club. Some more than others ahem, ahem..OPFC.

Isn't McCool a Bend Native? Family still lives in Bend? Bit of a strecth to put this on Timbers.

          It's always on the Timbers.

I think the OP meant "Bend Timbers", who hired Cole McCool (who did grow up in Bend) to be their new director. REALLY doubt the Portland Timbers would get involved in this.

Who is right in this dispute? I've no idea. Sounds like Tara took a bunch of coaches with her to the new club (Apex). The lawsuit was also filed by Bend Timbers, not by any parent; the interesting thing will be if the local DA decides to prosecute. Embezzlement is a crime with a specific meaning; and it's entirely possible that there is a compensation dispute here that doesn't involve cooking the books.

But what the whole thing is about, I haven't got a clue.

When I read the article it was much less shocking than the title had me thinking. When I hear embezzlement I go to the criminal side. This seems to be much more of a dispute. And if its true, what the treasurer stated that her payments were noted in their budget and signed by the board, then what the hell are we doing here with that. That is on the board for not bringing that up and discussing it. You don't wait till afterwards to then go back and start throwing out accusations, once you left on bad terms.

Also, as soon as this article started, it started with "lawsuit" then went on to talk about how the survey they gave to parents was included in teh lawsuit???
