Didn't an Oregon team make the final last year in this age group? I'd say that is quite the accomplishment.

So as a parent it would be great to play these two teams - Valencia and Timbers - twice in the fall for the teams to improve - but what I don't get is if Oregon is so bad why are you SW Washington fans on here complaining we won't let you in to our top league? Enjoy the Washington League and be Happy?

I think it is funny that we look at one tournament and decide - over the course of the Summer I am not sure that it is all that bad of records for Oregon vs Washington - if you compare the top teams.

FC - not sure they have played any of these teams yet - maybe in US CLUB
LO - Not doing great -but they are not the top of the league
EMFC - Has done fine - did not have a great LO tournament but I believe they are about 50% on the summer
THUSC - 50% for the summer

So I guess my question for the Vancouver parents is - on the 50% when we win are you saying that is just luck and that means we throw these games out?

Valencia is happy to be playing these top teams but will most likely be placed into D1 in the OPL. We have alot to work to do to keep competitive with the teams listed above. Trust me we know when we just squeak by or get outplayed. Every game is a battle and the team that plays better doesnt always win but that is part of soccer. These days making it into the elimination round is an accomplishment and making it to the final takes a good team and little bit of good fortune.

I'm a SW WA parent and I don't believe I hold a minority position. for the most part we would like to play in a league that provides adequate competition and limits travel. Seems like OPL would fit that bill. Is the RCL a deeper and more competitive league? Yes it is but the SW WA parents have to ask themselves at what price? Travel and $$$ are issues.
The Vancouver Timbers (VUSA / WSA, both of which are RCL members) signed on with the PDX Timbers to be an "affiliated club". Part of the commitment was an understanding that we would support the Timbers DA and OR ODP (both boys and girls) and the OPL. The club knew that the OPL needed to weigh in on the the whole OPL league (Premier / Div 1) and OPL State Cup decision. Nonetheless VT commited 100% to show good faith.
The OPL decided not to allow VT top teams (RCL Div 1) into OPL Premier and said no to OPL base WA teams in the OPL State Cup.

The OPL has made their decision and the top U13-U18 VT teams will again focus on competeing in the Washington RCL and WA State Cup.

So yes there was a snub by the OPL. In my opinion they had a chance to elevate their league and State Cup by making it more competitive and diverse. I believe they missed a great opportunity as the top VT teams will most likely never ask to be part of the OPL again. It will now take years for the new VT teams U12 and younger to cycle through and contribute to the OPL. Some of them may choose the RCL too based on the coompetitive nature of the OR age group.

If the OPL would have said yest to the Vancouver Timbers they would have had complete buy-in from the WA DOCs and all teams would have come. Now, VT will pick and choose what league to compete in. In the end it's probably best for SW WA. So maybe we all should be thanking the OPL for the perceived snub. Thanks!

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't an Oregon team make it out of bracket play at the Seattle Regionals in June? Vancouver Reds couldn't.

Funny you mention that. If you saw the groups you'd see why. I suppose Tyncastle is something to boast about. It doesn't mean alot when they turn around and lose to a team that the Reds beat 3-0 the last time they played. fyi Eugene got beat by Valencia AGAIN.

Funny you mentions that. All Vancouver Reds had to do to make it out of bracket play was beat Eugene. That shouldn't have been a problem...afterall, we're perfectly comfortable writing off all Oregon teams!

Clearly you are the only one who is writing off Oregon teams.
