    Delta Park?

Didn't I read on here previously that Delta Park was adding a couple new turf fields? Any updates. Have they broken ground? Or just breaking wind?

I thought the grass fields were not all that impressive this weekend at the PCU tourney. Quite a few weeds and smallish pot-holes. A couple of rolled ankles...

Delta Park Soccer..... I remember driving with my Father past the fields from the freeway for so many years and looking over and seeing all those people. Must be a cool thing. Years later I am taking my daughter to the fields for the first time. I did not care about the condition of the fields. This time I was looking at the freeway at all those cars going to no place. Damn I finally got here. And watching these kids playing their hearts out. Soccer RULES !!!!!! One less item on my bucket list. Proud to watch my kid play at Delta Park !!

          Really?

Drove by there this morning on the way to work. Didn't see any construction.
Sounds like another pipe dream when working with Mult. Co and the city of Portland!

PCU is front a large portion of the money to help turn field #8 into a turf field.

Should be another great addition to the community and to their program.

Delta doesn't have the nicest field in the are, but they aren't horrible, and it didn't detract from soccer. Wish people remembered what grass fields used to be like before there were turf field. Delta Park is an incredible soccer facility compared to what else we have (put aside THPRD, Salem, and Medford).

Better not tell the DOC at Aloha or he'll want time on the turf there too!

On a serious note I read in a Salmon Creek Post that they practice at Delta Pk. Is that true?

There are Vancouver teams that use Delta Park. Yes. Don't know about FCSC, but I know that VT has had teams practice there. Usually on Strasser.

Delta Park should be reconfigured to cram in as many lighted turf fields as possible, with 1 top grass field that is used for top games only. It would be a large initial capital investment, but it could easily be made a top facility and has reasonable access to both Portland and Vancouver. It's already heavily used for high school and adult leagues in the fall and it could be used more if it were primarily turf. Since it's in a commercial area it could also be lighted and used late to generate additional club and league rental income. With enough fields in one place Portland might even be able to host a regional tournament.

Isn't DP in a flood zone? Is throwing so much money at it (i.e. turf) a wise investment?

I don't recall it being under water in 1996. Was it? If not, it doesn't seem like much to worry about. Unless there were foundational damage caused by channeling, it doesn't seem like a flood event would destroy turf fields. A lot of clean up -- sure, but not destruction.

I have no problem with Vantucky teams playing at DP as long as their fee reflects their out of tax district status.

I trust you live in Portland and not the burbs where if they "paid" for it, they're using it. Kids from other states, say it's not so.

We used DP turf all last winter for practice. It's not like it's completely booked 7/24. There was never anybody on the field in the hour before we arrived and rarely anybody using the field afterwards. And it's dirt cheap compared to most turf fields with lights.
