So how many players from the highest level Timber DA team will go on to play at some level of professional soccer?

One poster in the HS is Done thread said 10-20% and another said that 2% was likely.

I think the 20% = 4 players number might be high. 10% = 2 players sounds reasonable but 2% would mean that the DA would only place 1 player every 2-3 years.

1 to 2 % matches Oregon History

Since 1995 when the MLS started (17 years)

Transplants Chad Barrett & Danny Mwanga have become viable pros.

Locals Ty Harden, Ryan Cochrane & Nate Jaqua had at least 5 year stints.

Chris Brown is the only other one to carve out a career playing.

All others had a cup of coffee in the MLS.

Played college baseball and we would have about 1-2 players each year move on to the pro level. Football the %s are even smaller. My guess based upon statistics of other sports that less than 2% is a very conservative number and anything higher is just a dream. Make sure your child is thinking college and not pro soccer.

Professional clubs need to invest in players. There is nothing wrong with that. I don't think the process the DA uses is that effective, but that's what we do in the US.

If I accept the idea that the improved training and general development of Oregon soccer would still only result in one player every three years I would strongly recommend that players NOT do DA and stay with the better club teams.

Timber supporters might say that the training is superior but at what cost to the development of the whole person?

Could Wharton survive as a business school if only 2% of their graduates got jobs in the fortune 500?

Sorry Timbers unless you can demonstrate a better success rate asking young players to forgo HS Soccer and travel around the country as property is not a good investment of time and effort!

Actually that's a big problem. They don't own the rights like is common elsewhere. Top DA prospects can leave and go to European clubs or academies and the DA gets nothing.

With respect to developing pros. If that means a top level professional (one who makes more than the league minimum in MLS for a year or two), the Timbers DA may produce one every couple of years at the most.

Though I have not read through the DA agreement it is my understanding that if you do not pay for instruction they do OWN you regardless of which continent you want to play on. Can you provide the link to the actual rules?

DA to pros is now very relevant in the portland market. If it happens. What are the rules?

Relevant maybe to 1.5 kids out of the 50 players there; and, if given a chance, who cares. By the way, none of the players there are national players so it is a gift if you play professionally at this point.
