I am amazed that for $65 PER tryout registration, this org can't even get their act together enough to list coaches. Every 50 suckers (er... Kids) gets the Timbers $3,250.00. Where does this money go? What a lucrative deal for them. This is a joke of a program.

The whole thing is a joke. I wish someone could save them from themselves.

It was $50 for the tryout and I do agree that the state portion is a joke but it's about getting to the regional hold over camp and possible regional team. Unfortunately for most you must suffer through the state program first.

Anyone ready for Janine's 120 kids inside the 18 yard box drill?

What's the big deal about making the regional team? And I'm not being sarcastic.....and if you make it one year, is it really necessary to keep doing it every year? So you play in an interrregional tournament for $700, that's it right? Is it simply bragging rights?

My guess is your child has never gone. At the interregional tournament are also National team coaches and college coaches from all over. It's a great way for a kid to get noticed. I konw of plenty of kids who have received college scholarships and can say that the ODP Regional team was a huge part in that.

ODP not needed, maybe in the 9-10 grade to play in the one good tournament they sponsor. If they are good they will make it, other wise you are just tossing your money away. Find a strong team that is playing in tournaments other than the local if you are in HS. Been around it for 15 years and it has not gotten any better and don't think it ever will

Sorry but that is just ignorant. I promise you a kid's chances for a scholarship or more increase the further they make it in ODP. While it is not impossible to succeed w/o ODP, it certainly helps your chances. And deep down you know what I say is true.

Agreed but only if they make it to the region iv team. State team doesn't do a lot.

Is there any benefit to keep making the region 4 team and continue playing in the interregional tourney? Or is it enough to just do it one time. Just curious.....

                          ODP is old school!

You Oregonians are living in the dark ages!
ODP is all you have so naturally you think it's the way to college recruiting.

NEWSFLASH .... ODP has lost it's footing as a fertile college recruiting tool.
High level showcases (Disney etc.) and ECNL are now the preferred recruiting grounds for college coaches. With limited recruiting budgets and time the coaches gravitate to the access point where they get the biggest bang for their buck. And it's not ODP.
A few ECNL players play ODP but most ODP players play in the ECNL nationwide. Coaches don't need to go to ODP events when 90% of the same kids can be seen in the ECNL plus a whole bunch more.

Since OR only has ODP it's no wonder you all are clinging to the fading image of ODP in terms of college access. Untill you've been to an ECNL event you have no idea what your missing and you have no idea how bad ODP has lost it's luster with College coaches as recruiting grounds.

Sure ODP looks good on a player's resume and can make a difference on an application. But don't fool yourself into thinking the program is a hot bed for college recruiting .... it just aint! I know some of you are going to say "well at regionals there were tons of college coaches". Times that by 10 for an ECNL event .... you do the math ... no comparison.

No doubt. However, ECNL doesn't exist in Oregon. So, and I hope your daddy taught you this as I am teaching this to my kids, you play the hand you are dealt. Premier National League used to be the "ECNL". Sorry, ODP is a part of the entire body of work. If you can guest on ECNL, great. If not, find an alternative, which includes ODP. Ask the thousands of players in college who are receiving 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 of 4/4 scholarships.... and many will answer "ECNL, what is that?" So, ECNL, if you have it, great (just make sure you are one of the top 13 players), otherwise, showcases, ODP, ....

I bet the Freshman and Sophmores could tell you exactly what the ECNL is!
I'm not knocking ODP as a development tool and a resume builder etc. and I agree you gotta play the hand your dealt but too many posters come on here a preach the gospel of ODP as the end all be all for access to college and it simply isn't around the country.

ODP is a great way to get noticed for the ECNL teams. There were lots of ECNL girls at the hold over camp. Getting on the region iv team is also a great pathway to becoming a discovery player on an ECNL team.
