I can tell you this from experience having 2 daughters already go through the Vancouver club system in that everyone was pretty equal at the younger age but Washington takes off at GU-13. You'll see that the comparison this year in NWCL won't be even.

Top 5 teams in RCL will be more skilled and what will be more significant is the athleticism of all the teams which they have hundreds of kids to choose from while FC, THUSC, LO split quality and Xfire, NWN, Eastside do not have to.
Maybe...but this current U-13 group competes better than U-13 Oregon groups in recent years. My Washington friends have noticed the same thing. I agree that Washington teams will have an advantage going forward, but I bet this year's Oregon NWCL contingent does very well against the Washington competition.

Last time I checked Onyx (an Oregon team) won the NWCL at U13 and has not been beaten by any of the top Seattle teams (Eastside, Washington Premier, and Crossfire). So I would disagree that any of the local teams have competed in recent years.

Onyx is of course the exception. Rarely has there been a team of that caliber formed in Oregon at those younger ages. But---- as a group, this year is exceptional.

Hopefully Onyx can maintain their high level of play U14-U18.
I believe the poster was making a point that as PDX / SW WA teams get older they seem to fall behind their Seattle counterparts.
It appears that Onyx consolidated the better talent early which is rare. Seattle clubs seem to have more talent as a function of population and as they consolidate and develop they seem to accelerate vs. teams to the immediate south.

How is this group "exceptional"? What have we done against SU, NWN or XFire? And don't bring up that we made the semis of NWCL last year. That was a long time ago when the WA teams had been playing 11 v 11 on a full pitch for a month. This year the WA teams will separate. How many? Maybe 3, but as many as 5-6 will be better than anything we have to offer. We seem to be happy to compete with the VTimbers, but these teams dominated them last year. My fear is the gap will only get bigger.

I must have misunderstood because I read the posts that said no other U13 team in OR/SW Washington had been competitive against the Seattle teams

The posts said "group" of teams. Not "team".

Just read on an older post that this guy Victir coach bit a player. Does anyone know what went down? Is he still coachng anywhere or in jail or what? Oregon or Washington.

The U13 group is a decent group but no different than any other year. Plenty of age groups and teams have been competitive outside of Oregon. There is nothing special about this group. I'm guessing most that post on here have their oldest child in U13. We've all been there before. Glad to see this group can compete with WA and I wish FC the best of luck at Surf Cup.

                      1. Onyx consolidated talent at U-12 including players from Salem and the greater PDX area. This is unheard of. They are the exception PERIOD. And the person that even brought them into the discussion clearly has no knowledge of any history of differences between OR and WA.

NWN and Xfire at GU-14 age is consolidating talent this year and they will over take Onyx.

                      2. At the GU-13 age for NWCL this year there will be a distinct gap of points between the Oregon and WA brackets. As the previous posters said, you must be riding the younger year fires soon to be smothered by what happens every year at this age and on.

                      3. FC Portland has no business being in Surf and they will get destroyed. This is fact. If they can't get out of group at US Club and even dominated by mid level teams in WA they will get killed by SoCal teams. Good luck on getting accepted next year. Amateur move going this year. Time and time again, Oregon teams get either declined or put in Gold division at the older ages because they get poor results.

SW WA Girls @ U-13, U-15, U-16, U-18 did very well in WA and tended to be largely dominant vs. Oregon. That being said, finals, and semi finals with no championships in WA means falling behind I suppose.

Bye Bye V Timbers 99 Reds

Looks like the powers that be wouldn't budge on the V Timbers. They'd have to start in Division 1. That wouldn't do anyone any good. I'm sure they'll go RCL. Would've been nice to have them in the mix

                              its both good and bad.

first, they OPL is standing behind their rules. something that in years past didnt always happen if you werent in the almighty 8.

second, your right, they probably are deserving to play.

                                Dumb

Is this final? Where did you hear this. If the OPL doesn't reconsider at some point I doubt the Vtimbers 99 Reds will ever play in the OPL. Why would they? Div 1 would be a wasted year for them.
Here is a perfect case where OPL flexibility needs to be applied but another bone head decision prevails. Way to go OPL.
