My daughter plays for the 99 reds and we respect the Valencia team as a bunch of very hard working, skilled soccer players. They bring the highest work rate every time we play them. The rest of the teams in this area could learn a lot from seeing the effort these girls give every time they get on the pitch. Our girls know that every time they play Valencia they are going to have to increase their intensity. Good luck to all the teams this weekend. And if your team is lined up against Valencia they better bring it, because I know Valencia will.

Lets be honest you are probably another Valencia parent trying to cover their butt.

Wow, this U13 Valencia team must be the greatest team around. I have to make sure to go watch them this weekend. The way the supporters are talking about them, you would think that they are the greatest team on turf.

"Definitely a dream run. Valencia was lucky to make it out of the quarterfinals against Washington Premier, who took an early 1-0 lead and threatened several times to add to the lead while Valencia had few decent chances. But WA Premier let them hang around and then made an awful defensive gaffe late in the game and handed a goal to Valencia on a silver platter. Game ended 1-1 after OT and Valencia prevailed in PK's.
A bit of a shame that the weaker team made the finals, because Washington Premier had already beaten San Juan in group play. But that's soccer. Sometimes the stronger team doesn't win"
I am not from Valencia, Timbers, or WSA, but did tell the person who made the comment to take it easy on Valencia, since these are only 12 year old girls. Also, I said that this is a SW Washington and Oregon thread so I am all for supporting SW Washington and Oregon teams when they play other teams. I am assuming most of the people on this forum are from Oregon or SW Washington.

I think the problem is that telling a good team they were "lucky" to do well in a great tournament doesn't come accross as a compliment but rather a backhanded attempt to lessen what the Valencia girls accomplished this past weekend. I am a Valencia parent and this past weekend is over now...the results we had and as well as we did or didn't play at times means zero going into this weekends tourney. Valencia could win the whole thing this weekend or get knocked out in group play. I would hope and imagine you would try and defend your team as well if the tables were turned especially since the negative comments are coming from people with little undersatnding of how this past weekend went because again, they clearly were not there to see it. Contrary to what is being said on this post Valencia is a team that is on the rise...get it? on the rise. Which means they are not quite there yet to compete with the gorgeous style of soccer all you other teams are so lucky to see every minute of every game. (Sarcasm in case you missed it) Winning is NOT the most important thing to this team or to these parents, well at least many of them, but while the team is beginning to develop isn't the goal to try and win as well? Don't kid yourselves, this team makes plenty of mistakes while trying to play the "right" brand of soccer. And an earlier poster is absolutely right. The ultimate goal is to develop good players who can play at a higher level. No team at U-13 is going to have all their girls stay together through high school so yes, they need to learn how to play correctly to enable themselves to be productive players in competitive environments in the future. This team is a ways behind the best teams in the area in many areas and AHEAD in many others....work in progress people. NOT the best team around and no Valencia parent or coach will say that they are...but very coachable and great work rate make for a positive future.

That doesn't sound right.

To say that winning is not the most important thing to the Valencia parents contradicts my observation. Valencia's parents were screaming the entire game like it was a world cup final. My daughter even commented on how obnoxious they were, and she rarely pays any attention to the parents. If I lived in Vantucky, I would avoid having my daughter play on that team just because I wouldn't want to have to listen to that every game.

Fair enough. Just like any other team though...not ALL Valencia parents behave this way...but point taken for sure.

2013-2014 Season
Since we have Valencia parents on this thread I've been interested in asking the following.
1) Has your team / parent group / ex-coach bought into the principles of the merger? i.e. combining talent.
2) Will your team enter tryouts with an open mind and accept positions on teams (A/B/C) as deemed appropriate by the club / tryout process?
3) Is your plan to keep the team together at all costs? Maybe even move to another club if necessary?
Thanks for your honest answer.
