A point of fact a 95, 96 or 97 Timbers Academy player for 2012-13 who is chosen as a Regional Camp ODP holdover this July is a zero gain situation as they can never play for the ODP Regional Team. (Due to Academy status). National Team selections are made from the pool of USSDA teams or players not served by the Academy program. (Which is no longer the case for Oregon)
Really? That makes no sense! If there is a standout Academy player and I'm coaching a US Youth National Team I wouldn't be able to call him up for a tournament? So our youth National teams will be made up a of players in states not served by DA teams? If what you are saying is true US Soccer is stepping backwards in it's development of players for their national teams.

That said, different coaches look for different things and just because a player isn't starting on a club team doesn't mean that s/he shouldn't be. Nor does it exclude the chance that an ODP coach sees something that a local club coach doesn't see. Depending upon the club coach that could be a lot.

So what all of this is saying is that the Timbers have control of those players who make academy?

Then in ODP he plays right back. The coach placed him there early in the training season and he loves it. Does a great job and has been selected for camp.
