Some people on here are so f*ing stupid. Wishing ill will ...chomping at the bit and hoping beyond hope that ODP kids will fail miserably. Unfortunately for them, Oregon will still have some ODP kids who will succeed and will make regional and even national pools. Go Oregon.

Rather than speculate, let's look at the numbers.
In 2011, Oregon ranked #2 overall behind Cal-South in Region IV for total numbers of Regional Pool Players with 51 total. The Boys had 34 and the girls had 17. The boys were 3rd overall behind Cal South and Utah and the girls were 5th overall behind Cal S, Cal N, Colorado, and Washington. But combined, again #2. I don't know exactly what to make of this but, in general, Oregon seems to be producing quality players.

In other words, these numbers don't tell the whole story, although they are useful for marketing Oregon ODP.

I really don't get that. You would think Academy players should be able to make regional pool, team, national pool, etc.

Understand
You cannot do usys ODP if you're part of the USSDA program, yes this includes the portland timbers DA program.
A point of fact a 95, 96 or 97 Timbers Academy player for 2012-13 who is chosen as a Regional Camp ODP holdover this July is a zero gain situation as they can never play for the ODP Regional Team. (Due to Academy status). National Team selections are made from the pool of USSDA teams or players not served by the Academy program. (Which is no longer the case for Oregon)
It also follows that a Region IV ODP player should be good enough to make the Timbers Academy squad. If they are not good enough to make the Timbers Academy (as a regional team holdover caliber) then it even further diminishes the value of the usys odp progam.
For the player with no chance of making the Timbers Academy this year playing at Regional Camp could be worthwhile.

Probably a stupid question but USSDA is only for boys, right? Girls make the National pool through ODP regional camp/teams or what? Just curious.

Re: National Team Boy 95.96.97
If a player is a candidate for National Team Selection from the Timbers Development Academy territory--that player will be part of the Timbers Academy. Otherwise the purpose of the Timbers Academy would thrown out the window. Rest assured that the lines of communication between US Soccer and the Development Academy teams (esp MLS) are solid. Sure their could be an exception, once identified that player would be removed from the ODP program and placed directly on the DA team.
