Originally posted by Unregistered View PostBoys side has been a fairly positive experience for us. I was trying to decide if $425 was worth what we have received and I think it has, generally. For kits (including home/away, sweatshirt, pants, socks, warmup shirts, and bag), 9 or so training sessions (~ 3 hrs each), 5 tickets to Timbers reserve games ($50 value), and the Friendship Cup included... pretty decent. I guess for us, the training and the coaching staff did actually raise the bar a level from club ball. I have to admit I was slightly bummed with the turnout for friendship cup. That said, most of the boys age groups had some kind of mix between the Whitecaps, BC Province, San Jose, Seattle. Could have been better, but not too bad. I have also heard many girls parents saying the Eugene ODP tourney was a mess, but I thought the boys side well run.
So maybe boys side is different? I will also admit I am a rookie to all this so maybe I just haven't figured it out yet. Any thoughts on this? Do the boys get a different experience? Or maybe I am just to new and haven't become jaded yet?
People will always complain. At the end of the day, I think the solution is simple, if you don't think it is worth your child's or your time ... don't do it. The part I have a hard time understanding is the individuals that come on to cut down our kids because they do participate. If it isn't worth participating in then it almost certainly isn't worth blogging about and yet.. at least one has posted 100s of times in multiple threads. I can only assume that they are not participating in anything more worth while or they wouldn't have time.Last edited by OrSoccerMom; 05-28-2012, 08:46 AM.

This post is spot on!
And it puts in place the idiots on this forumn that rip on things like ODP, ECNL and the Timbers Alliance. EVERY one of them are not a part of any three of those systems...
I can't stop laughing :)
I think I just pissed myself!

What is the biggest joke is that anyone who thinks Oregon ODP is a joke MUST be someone who doesn't have a kid on the team......
I probably should point out that even if they did or didn't or had or hadn't, the only thing is constant is the counter points that have TRUTH to them and the only person too stupid to realize it is YOU.
Stick your head in the sand more?
It's like someone saying you didn't get the 1900 call for the trip to Mexico so you wouldn't know if its a scam.........
Stupidity or ignorance, pick one Dad.

Actually I do have a dd that is on ODP and I think the time would have been better spent training with her club. This was certainly a waste of time and money. I am a patent that wants the best for my children and this wasn't it.

It's not the ONLY tourney they play
[QUOTE=Unregistered;773776]Originally posted by Unregistered View Post
That is spot on. 500 dollars later play a club team from WA isn't worth the time and effort. Thats great for that D1 parent player which I think is a farce but how about the other 95% of kids who don't go D1 in Oregon

For the uninformed the ODP teams went to Phoenix earlier this year and every player had the opportunity to be seen by D1 coaches. So for that extra $500 how many coaches would have seen come to see your DD train?
There were less than a handful of coaches and I'd rather go to Vegas with the club team and get seen by 300.
All the coaches where at an ECNL showcase.
Wow, are you uninformed.

I guess the coaches roster was a lie.

Additionally coaches have to spread their time at a show case whereas at an OD tourney they can see the best of the best play against the best so they have a better feel for how players handle situations and match up physically against the better players.
I'm NOT saying that Vegas or Surf is not a good deal but comparing ODP exposure & training to work with a club coach or team is just plain silly.

Here is who was "officially" there

There were also other coaches in attendance who did not register like there is at every other showcase tournament.

Who lied to you?
Since when has an ODP tourney be the BEST play the BEST? Really that is a laugh! Not as laughable as your next blunder!
Ask any college coach PERIOD. Ask any reputatable club coach (Clearly not yours)
Would you rather scout talent at Surf or Vegas or ODP? Please ask someone.
Why don't you ask Crossfire 97's ECNL who just won Manchester Cup why they don't send any of their top 15 players in the state to ODP?!!!
Why don't you see why Surf, Blues, Eclipse, Mustang, Chelsea, Nomads, don't send their best to ODP anymore?
Your club coach is the one who develops you. ODP does jack for development. ODP Tournaments bring 1/5th of the college coaches Vegas and Surf bring.
Get a club Dad and at least find a better club coach or someone who won't lie to you anymore.

Manchester Cup vs. Friendship Cup ODP..............................funny that no one would be stupid enough to say Friendship cup teams would be slaughtered trying to play the Manchester Cup teams.....best playing the best......REALLY

Actually, while I do agree with you, Crossfire 97s still have several players playing EPD (known as ODP in Oregon) for the 97s and 98s. Several of the girls who won the ManU Cup today, also won the Regional tournament in Phoenix back in January. There are 97s and 98s from WA EPD that still play both EPD and ECNL. A few players have dropped off since joining ECNL, but I would say the majority have stayed with both programs. I do agree that ENCL has much greater exposure. And comparing the Friendship cup to the ManU Cup is laughable. So we do agree. I would guess that more of the Crossfire ECNL girls will start dropping off this next EPD tryout season, after the summer. I would also not compare WA EPD to OR odp. There actually is a ton of development happening in WA EPD. Both 97s and 98s for WA have been to Regional finals vs Cal South and, as mentioned above, the 98s won. The 97s lost 0-1 a year ago to Cal South in the Finals. That would be our only disagreement, in that some ODP (EPD) programs are very beneficial for players, especially when ECNL is not an option. For Oregon's 97s and below, maybe not beneficial at all. That's where we agree again. For whatever reason, Oregon is well below par.
