Yep, I've gone the last 3 years and it is a great event with some fantastic soccer. I will be going again.

      Good measuring stick

It's a cheap and easy way to see good youth soccer. In addition you can see how Oregon teams stack up both physically and strategically to the better teams in the nation.

Last year doesn't look like any Oregon team was invited for boys. Usually, Nike invites 1 boys and 1 girls team even if they are not deserving to represent the home turf. For girls, THUSC finished 0-4 in group play. For Washington, Crossfire did enter boys and girls finishing 1-2-1 for boys and 3-0-1 for girls in group play. Crossfire girls finished 5th overall. Competition is fierce, top 20 teams boys, 20 teams girls... nationwide U15. I have watched it 2 or 3 years. By the time you get to the semi-finals the quality is so good it is hard to imagine these are 14 year olds.

I completely agree with your post. I like to watch quality soccer but it is equally fun to see how top Oregon and Washington teams fair.

Doubt Oregon will do much better this year. I hope that's not the case but I can't see Iridium doing too well. Our best bet will be if Onyx gets in next year. It would still be a long stretch but might be out best chance to have a decent showing.

It should be a requirement for those parents who think soccer has become too physical. These are some of the best youth teams in the country and you watch their game to understand how they get this far. I am in agreement with the previous post about Onyx. Iridium will get blown out against these teams. They should have put in the state cup winner. Onyx would give them a run better than any other OR team.

Too many stripes on their jerseys for Usonians to play in the Nike Manchester United Cup

Any child who aspires to play higher level soccer should get out there for a few games. I keep reading on this forum that kids need to get outside of Oregon to see what competition is like around the country, and this is a great opportunity to check it out in our own backyard. At least get out there for the semis or final. I believe a few Oregon kids were on a team that won it all a couple years ago. It can be done, THUSC. Good luck!!

Then just a few blocks away is the Oregon ODP Friendship Cup at THPRD that weekend as well. Competition looks much better then it did last year.

                    Great Weekend

This is by far the best age group soccer that gets played in our area. It blows the Friendship Cup away. These are teams from some of the best clubs in the country and most are here to win. It's no surprise and there's no shame that Oregon teams haven't fared all that well. Some have done better than others. My kids participated and it was a great experience all around.

Everything about the tournament is top notch, including the refereeing. I particularly agree with the post that talks about the physical nature of the play. It is fast, physical and intense. It's eye opening if you haven't been exposed to it before. If you have a player at or near that age you should take him or her. The games are only 40 minutes long.

They should of had a few more Onyx players guest play. But hey at least they picked up a few of them. ;)

Once upon a time the tournament was hosted by two Nike teams, LO and FC Portland.

Someone who has Nike connections should ask how THUSC got in the picture.

Why is Thusc even doing this to their team? I understand challenging yourselves, but they will get hammered by these teams. Not by a little, by a LOT. Why not give the spot to a stronger team? This makes no sense to me.

The space between the THUSC and WST team is very slight and OBTW the WST team wears that "other" gear now!
