I don't love the way youth sports controls so many other events. Sounds like it works for you, but it doesn't for everybody. For example, siblings who don't play or moms who don't love soccer or simply want to have a family day away from sports.
Two separate points - one pertaining to OYSA scheduling against itself, which I believe is was silly of OYSA.

The other issue, which I addressed, pertains to Mother's Day. There are constant conflicts in youth sports and youth activities in general. I have one child who doesn't do youth sports but plays an instrument in a youth group. I know of plenty of other families who are engaged in other competitive activities outside of sports. Same time commitment. Trying to schedule around every holiday is an impossibility. It's always a judgment call, but personally I believe there are very few days that should be ruled out, and those primarily are due to the religious conflicts. I don't see scheduling events on Mother's Day or Father's Day as any different than scheduling on Memorial Day, Labor Day, or Presidents' Day, all of which have regular events. I don't criticize those who elect to refrain from organized youth activities because of the feeling that it conflicts with family time, sibling time, or whatever the case may be. But let's be realistic otherwise and put ourselves in the shoes of the event organizers before we criticize without knowing the background for the decisions.

      The last several years

I have celebrated Father's day on the road with my kid at Far West Regionals the last several years. I wouldn't change it for anything...

Geez, quit your whining.... my son didn't make ODP this year and he was really disappointed. I would give up my "Mother's Day Off" Sunday to have your kid's place on the ODP team for my son.

You're the type of person that is so self centered you forget there are a lot of kids and "their parents" who would love to have your inconvenience.... Why are you letting your child compete at this level if you get upset about scheduling? Welcome to Premier youth sports.

Do you really think that training on Mothers Day is what makes the difference between players you're nuts. It's about perspective. It's not about being self centered. It's about taking time for our other children and their activities. It's also not new.

And those other activities have to happen on Mothers Day? There's 365 days for you to choose from. Get over it. It's one day out of the year.

I think that Mother's Day happens on Mother's Day, just like Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter on their respective times. That's what those days are about -- reflecting or honoring the purpose of the holiday. Like I said before it's about perspective. Rather than me "getting over it" you should get some. To take your viewpoint, there are 364 other days to get in that training session. Take your mom to brunch and spend some time with her.

Well then don't forget Presidents day, Chinese New Year, Armed Forces Day, Flag Day, Labor Day, Grandparents Day, Columbus Day, MLK Day, Loyalty Day and Valentines Day. Wow, maybe we should just cancel all practices for all sports so we can celebrate EVERY Holiday to make EVERYONE happy! Not to mention make sure the kids have the day off from school. Wouldn't want them missing any reflecting or honoring.

I have plenty of perspective and so does my mother. She doesn't care about the exact day that we spend together as long as we spend time together and cherish it always. I do that more than just 1 day a year.
