Mature refs would never admit this to a fan. They would never deal with a fan in any capacity.

In what world would it benefit the refs or the soccer community at large to keep secrets that will improve the conduct of the players, coaches and spectators?

I read the post as mature and experienced refs admit their mistakes (including to fans)... If I misunderstood the original post then my mistake. Otherwise, referees really don't have much to gain by talking with fans. In fact, it shows a great lack of focus/concentration and implied favoritism.
