Can Daughter move to Premier ?

My Daughter has been playing division 3 for a few years now. Hoping tonights tryouts go well. What are the chances she might make it up to a premier team this time? Or should I just let it go?

Division 3? Might be a tough transition unless you got her a bunch of extra training...

What age group if you don't mind saying?

Also, has she been on a "B" team or just a weaker "A" team. There are a lot of good players on weak "A" teams from small clubs. And also a lot of good players on "B" teams from string clubs. This kind of transition happens all the time.

If she tries out at a lot of places, but doesn't catch on at any of the strong ones, at either an A or B team level, then she may not be destined for Premier. How does she feel about all this?

It would be one heck of a jump....

Anything is possible... But with that said, the jump from a D3 team to a premier team would be pretty drastic. Your DD would have to be a very big fish in a little pond currently. She needs to be extremely dominate currently at D3.

Prior to tryouts, I would have suggested going and practicing with a club or team at premier or D1 level for her age or the next age up. You would be able to tell pretty quick if she is even in the same realm. However, at this point hit a tryout and watch what is happening, even an untrained but analytical eye (you) will be able to tell where she fits in the scheme of things.

I would suggest shooting for a smaller good club, that plays D1, or a larger club in the hopes of making their 'b' team that plays D1. There she would have an opportunity to continue to move up to premier if she is willing to put in the time or is actually that good.

If she doesn't make a squad, talk to some teams and do some practices with a club or two. Have an honest discussion with the coaches and see where that club plays and their record via the OPL site.

          Good Luck!

The problem she will have is the speed of the game and possibly have physical the premier players are compared to what she has been going against. About 5 years ago my daughter made a jump from a very low level team to the top team in the area. Her low level team was the equivilent of a division 2 or 3 team and the team she went to would easily wax any premier team in her age group (by a margin of 6 or 7 to 0). This was in a different city by the way. She couldn't get used to the speed of the game and the effort that you have to put out on a regular basis in the games. We quickly moved to a somewhat lower level team (although it was still a very high team) and it was a great move. She has continued to develop and when we moved here, she went straight to a premier team. Frankly, I think she is better than most of the premier players she plays with and against.

My guess is that if she is reasonably skilled and puts out a TON of effort in tryouts, she has a shot. Just realize that soccer is a journey and don't get bothered if she isn't on premier this year. Keep working hard, work on her skills and speed and try again next year if it doesn't work out this year. A division 1 team will be fine for her.

I would say none (unless she is the super star in division 3) if she has been playing division 3 for a few years.

Although my example is with my boy and not my girl, I'll share my story with you as an encouragement. My son tried out for a spot on a very successful premier club as a U13 after never having played club soccer, having only played with his elementary school team, and largely being coached only by his PE teacher and mom. He made the team and spent the season as a B team player, where he was excellently coached and many deficiencies were fixed. Two years later he plays nearly every minute of every A team match on a very successful premier team. I don't know if this is unusual but I hope that it brings you hope.

Of course there is a chance. On the other hand, make sure that it is something that your child really wants... not just something that you want for them. Some kids like to play simply because they like to play and they don't get caught up in which division and so forth. It only makes sense so play at the highest level if your child really really wants to do it!!

                    The Van

Have you considered any of the Vancouver clubs? With her experience, she's got a really good shot there (unless her D3 experience was in the Van).

Your situation is different then the poster's situation. Your son was obviously a very good athlete who had very raw soccer skills due to know club soccer experience. He played one year of "B" soccer and moved up once he learned how to play soccer. This happens all of the time in the younger groups.

The other poster has a daughter who has already played Division 3 for several years. Unless she is playing Division 3 because she is really small and now all of a sudden hit a growth spurt then I would say her chances of moving from Division 3 to Premier is slim to none.

The key difference is she has had the opportunity to train for several years already and is playing 2 divisions below Premier. I don't want to be negative, but want to be realistic. Do the best you can, but I would not expect her to make a Premier team on for a decent club.

Also I think they are talking about tryouts this year which are this week. There is a lot you can do between this tryout and next tryouts to help her move up a division or two next year.

Back to Div 3..............But, congratulate your daughter for taking the risk to challenge herself and step out of her comfort zone. If she loves the game, maybe the tryout experience will have shown her what she needs to do to make the next step and push herself to reach that goal and try again next season.

Either way, I am hoping that she continues to play, and enjoys the experience no matter the level.

I played a sport at a small college level, and my favorite quote of my coach was:

"Remember the big time is where you are at!"

Best of luck in the coming season to you daughter.
