What are some of these teams doing for the next 9 months?
Lets hear it
Well, since tryouts have not even happened, I would think it would be a little hard to discuss what events teams will be playing in. Just saying...........
lol at u12? Whoever coaches these teams need to go sell snowcones to eskimos. There is much more the kids can get development and competition wise while not leaving the state. No need to leave until u13 at the earliest, and that's only if there are absolutely no teams that are even comparable to your insanely talented team.
The money you're spending is not an investment for out of state tournaments at this age. It's just spending money for fun trips.

Yes, this sounds insane to do at these young age. This must be a joke. I love watching my daughter and we are a soccer family. However, I don't want every one of my family vacations to be soccer related. What a waste of money!

If an Oregon team gets into surf cup at a young age, they do not have a lot of competition here in Oregon, simply a fact. If you are questioning it, then it is possible that you do not have a good understanding of that tournament and how difficult it is to get into. And I believe the schedule above is for a U13, soon to be U14 team, not a U12.

This has to be the U13 onyx. They are an exception and travelling even at u12 Probably makes sense for this team, but not for many others at this age.

Says the person who has never traveled out of state for a tourney. I have many times with all 3 of my kids even at U 11. It was absolutely the best thing soccer related I did for them. My kids got to experience big picture soccer at a young age and it helped shape their goals and mindset early on. I would do it again in a heart beat. If a coach has a talented team and they don't travel, they are lazy.

Development, Ha! Pounding the same Oregon teams in every tourney 5,6, 7, 8- nil is better than 1-0 loss to a So Cal team at Mustang?....enjoy your Mt Hood Silver Division medal, I'll take a 1-1-1 record in group play in Cali any day for development....
Since u11 I have enjoyed when my kid's team goes to play out of state. Great bonding time for player and families.
Sometimes it is just one parent, sometimes it is the whole family. But each summer I, my family and the player look forward to out of state tournaments.

Just another perspective . . .
That's exactly what it is, another fun trip, if you can all afford it.
For those that think 4, 6, 8 to 0 games were what I was implying as development, you are very wrong. I'm sorry if you think that games and local tournaments are the first thing that pop into your head when you think development. I'm sorry that outa state tournaments are what comes to mind when you think development.
Spend some time in a different soccer circle and you might find that there are many more ways to improve the play of your DD. There are many more ways to teach and educate your DD of the demands of the game and the big picture.
Outa state tournaments are helpful, but come at a larger cost than what is needed. Your coach can be way more creative.

I agree 100%, it has been a great experience for our two players, and they each started at U12. While out of state tournaments do not make or break a team or a player, it does open their eyes to what else it out there. Oregon is a very small pond. If a team is in the top 1 or 2 teams in their age group, going and seeing where they need to get to compared to out of state teams is a great experience. It is not about just beating all the Oregon teams, it is about being the best team and player you can be, and sometimes at 11, 12, 13, it is hard to understand what that is until you go and see it. Occasionally out of state teams come here, but not often enough, one big California tourney can have the kids seeing things in a totally different perspective. It is also a good measuring stick on how a team is improving each year. It is not the "everything", just a piece of the puzzle. Most teams that do this type of travel are up front about it. If anyone is concerned about the cost or time potential travel can add to soccer, this should be asked about before tryouts to make sure it is a good fit for your family.
