Last year Nike was still the sponsor and the Cali teams didn't come. Never heard and "official" reason but the economy was mentioned most often as the cause!

Actually I do not believe Nike sponsored last year. I know I purchased all adidas odp gear for my son.

I think OPD has long been supported by the three stripes but the tournament was separately sponsored by the swoosh....could be wrong about that though!

Odp was always nike until this year with the timbers and nike always sponsored the friendship cup until this year. I don't believe sponsorship is the issue as this cup has been on a steady decline for about 4 years.

No kiddin' The Friendship Cup has become an absolute joke and a complete waste of time. What happened to this tourney over the years? The younger age groups are a joke. BC provincial teams are horrible. Very frustrating that oysa could not come up with something better. Yeah, yeah! I know what you are gonna say, but I already paid.

My kids did ODP for years. They are in college now, but if I remember correctly, the Friendship Cup struggled when it ended up conflicting with another state's tournament. We were used to seeing the teams from HI, norCal, Colorado, Washington, Idaho, and Canada. Not sure if the other tournament still exists, but it could one reason for the current disappointment.

I thought the Timbers had money? It is after all the Timbers Friendship Cup. Doesn't explain why the other States pulled out of the tournament. It's pretty bad when the Oregon ODP can't even get Washington to come down and play.

Better tournaments around the same time, and they have the college scouts-Why pay to travel here when their ODP teams have other options. Plus, this is happening during state cup games for some states so no time for this tournament.
