In another thread there is a conversation about the WUSC U14 boys. I thought I would move it here as I am curious. Why has this club never taken off? I do not live in West Linn, but it seems to me it is a great location with good athletes and plenty of fields. Now with the Tualatin Sherwood alliance with WST it seems they may never get their legs. Does anyone have any insight to this? The tournaments over there are always well run..what gives?

Rec club not deserving of it's own tread. Tourney run by Mike Morris, of the Chinook Cup fame, not a WUSC tourney.
U14B are good, look for the club to be selfish enough to keep a single U15B classic team. The OSSA thing will not happen, (why give up the only team they have to another club), links on website are gone. Look for the boys that want other opportunities within TA to leave, and not to OSSA (good girls club).
Parents of the U14B team run the club, Club Pres and all the other board positions. This is why they can't build a club program, there is only attention given to their child's teams.
Players with potential simply leave to other Premier clubs. Nothing new, simply Oregon soccer.Comment

Most of the kids that play on the other teams come from the West Linn Wilsonville rec teams. Their dad coaches are reluctant to give them up and want to keep kids "together." This translates to keeping the lower players parents happy at the expense of the better players. The club does what the community wants at large and top players leave by U12. WUSC fits in the category with Bridlemile. And when they let TM move into their backyard they likely eliminated the chances they ever had at having any more premier groups. I am not sure why LO and WUSC have not reached out to each other to make a more solid foundation for OSSA.Originally posted by Unregistered View Post
Sitting in a small community like West Linn is much harder than say Beaverton. When you cut kids it is much more personal, and you have to have the stomach for it.Comment

If you're talking about the forward, he has been most heavily recruited by just about every club. I heard an ESUFC and FC coach both talk with him. I see him hanging out with the players of WST. I have personally heard one of the future OSSA coaches talk about how he is already "committed" to playing there as the coach went along with his sales pitch to get my son to join them next season at OSSA.Originally posted by Unregistered View Post

The other strong talent is the new kid that came from the year older OSA team. These two kids are elite athletes and soccer players. They need to get into a program that will get them the exposure they deserve: FC, ESUFC, or WST at the high school ages.Comment

My son as done well and I guess I'm getting a little edgy with all the coaches trying to convince my son to come to their club by bashing on our current club. I personally think Wusc is one of the few clubs that has the MAJORITY of the kids' interests at heart, not just a handful of premier players. They have quality coaching, decent teams, and treat kids with respect, all of the kids. If your player is a super star and you feel they aren't getting enough attention, go somewhere else. We've had 3 children who have gone through soccer clubs in Oregon, and have seen quite a bit. Wusc has a different philosophy about what soccer should be about(in most cases we've seen) What's wrong with having a club that is there for the community? It shouldn't be all about winning and the elite players (10% of all the kids, if that?). There are plenty of other opportunities for those players.Comment
