I guess he will try out at the teams this side of the river (Vancouver) and if he gets the nod that they like him we will look at whats on offer. he has to earn the wright to be on any team and its not for him or myself to feel he will get the nod.

As we had said before its more about the result than the kid being taught. He will be doing try outs at his age group in may so hopefully I can find a coach i can feel comfy with who will look for development and not results

      What age group is he?

That is a little shocking to me. I don't know of any top club in Portland that would have a U12 on their U14 team. I'm going to guess that the U14 team is not a top team.

Would guess that is SC on the Vancouver side. Very common to play two years up to fill out teams with that club. No U12 boys team at SC.

I heard that the Pacific team that will be U13 is the team at this age. Otherwise, you will have to play up at Pacific or VUSA, or go across the river. I have read this on the Washington soccer board and found it amusing that the team is not at the bigger clubs.

It's a decent team. They finished 5th in the OPL so they won't be in NWCL but can compete with the top 4.

during the winter he played both pacific u12 and timbers u13 while the teams had league breaks.

like I said he has to do tryouts and see if he gets picked by anyone then we will take it from there.

As a current U12 like all U12's he is no where near the finished article and it bothered me that people where talking him up, he was brought down to the ground very quickly by me he doesnt need the hype. I have coached some of these boys who are very good but have been told time and time again by coaches or parents that they are the best around and they become unteachable and no longer team players. Without a team it doesnt matter how good you are you wont develop.

As I said before too many people are concerned about results not development. If you develop the player / team the results will come.

I coached for 7 yrs and no just watch from the side, many of the boys whom I have coached are now playing perm soccer so for me thats something that makes me smile and like to watch them now play on whatever team they play.

I havent coached for two yrs now because of work and just the club BS and Im not labeling any club they all have that politics of trying to build there roster and getting money into the club. This runs against the grain for me as where Im from its your ability to play not pay.

I know there is a Oregon Washington split on these threads and I have said for a longtime with 4 club sides in Vancouver it would be great to build a team from those boys and make a true Vancouver team to compete with the teams in Seattle. Each year one club could take ownership of it but the coaching staff always remain neutral. I know this will never happen due to the clubs not wanting to work together and I guess all thats down to money and clubs not wanting to loose their cash cow.

Good for you to recognize that some coaches and DOCs will tell you the world to get your kid on a team. Some coaches and DOCs say that to any kid just to fill a squad...

If any team is implying that a 12 year old is "the finished article" or "the best around", I would run from them. That's just them shoveling crap. So many parents fall for that.

Oh no! Another Brit that played pro. Can any of you guys just come over here and say, "No. I never played pro."
They don't give out licenses just because of your playing career. An "E", what the heck is that? If you have A, B and C in Europe, why does the US add on with D, E and F? (Money)
UEFA coaching badges do mean something. What are the ones you have? My guess would be, none. I will give you an F in grammar, but A+ in BS.

Why do you care what license he has, he is not on here bragging about what he has done or how much better he is. He was just talking.

And you do get a license for playing. I think pros automatically get a "B" license. I think someone had mentioned that with Tina Frimpong, since she played professionally she did not have to take her license test, it was automatic.

Guess they just assume you know a lot about soccer if you can make it that far in soccer.

Dont know about the B be an automatic maybe for people who played pro here. I have thought about going for more badges but guess as now Im in my 50's I have over 35 yrs playing and coaching and never had a loosing season so I must be doing something right.
Again Im all about development not results they will come if you coach right. Also my career is over so its not about me its about passing on to the boys that I have coached something that they can carry forward with them. As I said in one of my posts its great to see boys who are now playing on prem teams and ODP teams its good to see.
