No ECNL teams just ECNL clubs. ECNL teams can't play regular teams at age. And not all the best teams were there.

Odd they were same age and had ECNL patches on their jerseys. Who was missing that was any good from Oregon?

Really? My daughter came from an ECNL and they played, as you put it, regular team at their age all the time.

Competition was alright, I think THUSC and OSSA were short on players.

It is against the league rules.... you can check for yourself at their website

“ECNL Team” is the team of an ECNL Club that participates in ECNL Competition in
            either the Under-15, Under-16, Under-17, or Under-18 age groups.

“JR ECNL Competition” is competition at the Under-13 and Under-14 age groups,
between ECNL Member Clubs, sanctioned by US Club Soccer, approved by the ECNL
Board of Directors, and played under the guidelines and requirements provided in Rule 7
            below.

It is likely that your daughter came from the younger age group so you were not aware of the rule. The only reason we know is that we do play currently in the ECNL. "ECNL" is by the name of the club often because it is like that in the database. For example there were no Washington premier or Crossfire ECNL teams in NWCL but it said ECNL. I'm not trying to be a jerk just working with facts. Sorry.

Facts are off somewhere. Check the Showcase of Champions web. They lead right to the ECNL teams showing they play in ECNL sanctioned tournaments and this one.

Numerous ECNL do other tournaments, not many but still do. Surf Cup is a great example of one where ECNL teams show up. Not sure where poster got info.

Agree. I can't speak for the younger ages, but most ECNL teams at least U16 and up play tourneys outside ECNL.

It didn't look like the poster said that they don't do the same tournaments ... they don't play premier teams in the same age group. It is different. Most showcase tournaments have a Elite group that they ECNL teams compete in. If they are competing against premier teams then they have play up a year.

Maybe that's true for certain teams, but that is not an ECNL rule or guideline or mandate or whatever you want to call it. Most ECNL teams that play in tourneys outside the ECNL showcases simply play the highest level available at the tourney at their own age group and don't play up. Maybe your club or team is the exception.

As an aside, there seems to be this mistaken impression that ECNL equals great team. That is not the case. ECNL selection is based on the overall club. Not ever team within the club is great and if they play up, many would get hammered. At any ECNL showcase you will see that there are some great teams and some very average teams. By the same token, there are many non-ECNL teams that are fantastic, but that are not part of ECNL simply because their club isn't ECNL. Having the ECNL moniker after the team name doesn't equate with great soccer team.

Congratulations to the Oregon teams this weekend at the Showcase of Champions. OSSA took the championship in top bracket with THUSC just behind them. In the other bracket Eugene took the top spot followed by OSSA. Way to represent.

Here's the situation; During our last game of the Showcase of Champions, the Pacific NW 95A (ID) coach complained to the officials all game. Numerous times you would see the center ref throw his hand toward the coach as if to say; "Enough". Now, don't get me wrong, this ref left something to be desired. He missed numerous calls for both sides. There could have easily been a PK called on us, as well as other offenses on both sides. With 15+ minutes left one of their midfielders gets tangled with our smallest player. She goes down and our player stumbles after the ball, regains balance and gets to the ball. The whistle blows. The ref gives our girl a warning. The Pacific NW coach storms the field and gets right in the center ref's face. (Center ref is probably 10+ years younger). After a few seconds the ref points off the field. The coach keeps on him, The center ref again points off the field (As if indicating the coach is thrown out). Again the coach is still jawing on him. The center ref finally blows his whistle and indicates to the teams that the match is over. Everyone walks off.
Now, isn't this a college SHOWCASE? There are now brackets, no points awarded, it really doesn't count for anything. It is to showcase the girls talent so college coaches can see them, right? So how can this coach justify his actions? IMHO not only did the coach embarrass himself and his team, but he took away time for both teams players to be seen on the field in front of college coaches (I counted four on our sideline watching).

Any thoughts on this bizarre behavior?

Other than that I thought the venue was great, good competition, weather was brilliant.

The pull down in the box by THUSC must have been the pk you are referring to. Obviously the ref was not in control of the game and the coach is obligated to protect the players from being hurt. Play the beautiful game the right way and you do not get a lot of drama following you around.
