Plan on it!: CLASH at the BORDER July 6-8, 2012

The Clash is going to be awesome this year!

    http://www.wsasoccer.net/Tournament/index_E.html

First the tournament is hosting the Portland Timbers U23's vs Washington Crossfire on Friday evening. Every tournament player and coach/manager receives complimentary tickets with their registration. Last year there were over 3,500 spectators. I believe it was the largest audience that the Pdx Timbers U23 had played to in 2011! Plus all Players, coaches and parents will recieve 50% off at the Adidas HQ Employee Store! Stay tuned for more Adidas and Portland Timbers give-a-ways and autograph sessions are announced!

A true "Clash at the Border" as teams from OR, WA, Alaska, BC, Seattle, ID, AZ, CA & more decend on SW Washington (Camas / Vancouver)! VUSA & WSA teams will be in full force too! This years Clash should draw more Regional competition and give the OR clubs a very competitive tournament just across the river! Far enough to feel "out of town" but close enough to sleep in your own beds and save on hotel and restaurant costs!

Mark your calendars now! July 6-8, 2012! Tell your Coaches & Team Managers! Come join in the fun!

a little mouse told me ...

I'm hearing that as part of the PDX Timbers vs WA Crossfire deal that Crossfire is bringing down their youth teams as well. I sure hope this happens! Would love to play them in a neutral setting! One clooser to me! LOL

We may see xfire teams, but most likely B, C, or D teams(yes they have that many premier teams), or even some of their select teams. Should still be good competition, but we will not see the best they have.

Clash at the Border is a great tournament to see the best teams that WSA and VUSA have to offer. Other than the majority of the competition being the above two clubs, there will only be a few other local teams. Clash is small.

Bernie (DOC) is going to be down here with his U23 team ... why not bring his other teams?
Who knows what recip is being negotiated with the Crossfire Challenge?
I'm sure all the Timbers Alliance teams will be supporting each others tournaments so that could be a draw for Crossfire too not to mention significantly boosting the number of teams at the Clash this year.
On the girls side the Clash won't see the ECNL teams but perfectly reasonable to see crossfire's A & B squads.
Looking at the website Clash has Silver brackets so this could be a banner year for the tournament.

Worst tourney our team has ever played in! The competition was horrible - it consisted mostly B level teams.

Competition is weak...they list club names on their site, but not the actual teams. 90% are the weaker teams from the big clubs. Not worth the time...there's better competition at the Cowlitz County Kick Off tournament in longview.

Our team played 3 years in a row. Had a great time. This is a very good local tournament. Its' not the Surf Cup but our girls had a great time playing in it. The competition was A-level in our division.

Agree ... not sure what age/gender the other poster is complaining about. We'll be back!

How about the money we paid to play crappy teams, and run through the tourney with no goals scored against us and scoring too many goals too easily. That's my itch. Please don't get me wrong, the tournament is appropriate for lower level teams and probably a great time. Isnt't that what we all seek when paying money and playing a tournament; appropriate competition and a good experience? But please don't promote this tournament as anything other than a 2nd (at best) or 3rd tier level tournament within the NW region. Posts were correct, they advertise clubs playing but not that these are the lower level teams from the clubs.

Sorry, I have to disagree. We liked the Border Clash!

                          Certainly wasn't our experience...
We had great competition and a great experience and my DD's team is definately not a lower level team. Must have been your specific age/gender bracket. I don't think my DD's team is anywhere near selecting summer tournaments yet but I hope the Clash at the Border is one of them. We are an OR team and with gas prices so high it would be nice to stay local. I might feeldifferently if we didn't have a good experience but that's not the case for us.

Clash at the Border is a fun tournament but is without a doubt a second rate one. I hope our team does it again just because it's local and is a good warm up for the real tournaments. For those of you saying it is a competitive tournament I would have to assume your team is not all that competitive outside of Oregon. Look at the scores from the final for last year. Most are very lopsided. You have some 8-4, 5-0, 9-0. I don't see any teams from CA, BC, AZ, or even Seattle that won the tournament. Lots of VUSA and OPL teams though. That should be a red flag that the the top teams from out of state are not showing up. Hopefully that will change this year.

This tournament was a joke and I don't care if we got free tickets to a Timbers/Sounders game. I still wouldn't go back. Complete waste of time and a rec tournament at best. Sorry WSA!!! Hope your other fund raisers work out for you this year.
