    GU18 State Cup

Only 4 teams in the OPL GU18 state Cup? That's embarrasing! Seriously?
A quick look at WA and they have 13 in their Championship Cup and 17 in their Challenge Cup.
Wow it means nothing to be an OPL State Cup Semifinalist ... as they all are. I feel bad for the kids. Kind of meaningless.

Shoot, I should've had our coach sign us up for u18. This could've been a fun year for our team!

Who cares about games. We just want to say we made it to the semi-finals :D

If the OPL should be embarassed by having 4 teams in state cup....

What should OYSA a be... with 2 teams in state cup. Out of business?

        This is really sad.
These kids play their entire club career for this?

Or maybe kids just quit after GU17? My kids are slightly younger so I'm only guessing here?
However, WA seems to keep 'em playing and the population thing doesn't seem to be an explanation with a ratio of 06:30

There is much more investment into your program when your playing in WA then when you're playing in OR. Makes you really second guess quitting or ending early.

If this is true why do you think the "investment" is greater in WA? I assume you're not equating investment in monetary terms.

I do think monetary investment plays a part in it all.

I also believe that due to the competitive level of the soccer environment, more kids are spending time with personal trainers, camps, extra programs, etc. There is more of their own personal investment into developing into the player they've always wanted to be. After 10-14 years of this, it makes it hard to just let it go and move on. It becomes a large part of who you are.

Those players on ECNL and Academy teams are not out getting personal trainers, camps and extra programs. My DD plays for a Wa ECNL team and the training they offer is plenty. In fact, there are some recent trends to have a mandatory non soccer couple of months to let injuries heal. I will take it a step further and say that since my player is an out of state player we thought about getting private training and were discouraged from doing so (by her coach) unless it was a good size group training. I am amazed that people seriously think their kids should be doing more. If your kid is doing their club team and end up doing an academy, ID2, ODP or whatever higher level play they probably won't have a lot of time left for more soccer.

By U18 there are few teams still going compared to the younger ages. The club season is after the senior HS season and the only kids left playing are those shooting for college. Most teams know by this point if they have a chance of winning and some that don't opt out of the tournament. If they know they aren't going to win they would rather spend the last month in HS taking it easy.

All 6 of the teams left in OPL and OYSA state cup are top tier with most players committed to play in college. I will say though having a child on one of these teams, it seems the girls are mentally already off to college. I think many of them want to move on at this point but also have a competitive nature and want to win for bragging rights. This being my last child going through this system, I honestly feel like i am mentally and financially ready to move on. It was fun though and brought us so much closer as a family but I am happy to not have to deal with all the drama involved with OPL/OYSA.

Agree-the 6 teams in oysa/opl State Cup are the top teams and are all relatively even. After that that the quality drops off dramatically. Any additional teams would have no realistic chance of winning a game.

I just wish all 6 could be in the same State Cup

                          Amen

Amen, to the mentally and financially ready to move on. I hope Oregon soccer can pull it together for the kids, but I am glad to have my last child finishing and watching her college career.

                            Round 2 OPL State Cup

Well the round robin play is completed and now the girls get to play a team they have already played to determine the finalists. :(

Unless a major upset happens EMFC is one of the finalist.

Predictions on the L.O./FC game or thoughts on the previous games?

I say L.O. v. EMFC in finals. Flip a coin to pick a winner, but I'll go with EMFC.

It will be emfc v. fc in finals. fc shoulda and coulda beat ossa the last time they played-think they'll do it this time. fc will also win finals-emfc has improved but still just don't see them having what it takes-they're kinda like the little engine that could, but really can't.
